7 Things to Know about the Marriage Bathroom

There’s a lot to be said for what goes on in the marriage bedroom, but what about the marriage bathroom?

Plumbing giant Roto-Rooter recently commissioned a survey of 5000 married men and women regarding their bathroom habits, providing a glimpse into the sacred throne room and offering some interesting insights into how men and women really feel about their bathrooms.

15.6% of men surveyed revealed that their biggest bathroom pet peeve is the sheer number of hair and beauty products that their wives possess! Do women really need that much stuff? That mystery may be the one that goes unsolved.

She doesn’t really care about the toilet seat.

We expected “leaving the seat up” to be the number one pet peeve of women everywhere, but that annoyance only ranked #5 among respondents! What annoys women most in the bathroom? 14.3% say they hate it when their husbands don’t replace the toilet paper!

Personal boundaries can erode with age.

Do you talk to your spouse while sitting on the toilet? Newlyweds (married 2 years or less) didn’t even report this communication tactic as a pet peeve, but among men and women married 20 years or more, 11.2% of respondents say their biggest pet peeve is when their husband or wife tries to talk to them while using the bathroom!

A shared bathroom means double the disarray.

Nearly 40% of newlyweds count hair in the shower drain, beard stubble around the sink and urine on things that are not the toilet as some of their biggest bathroom pet peeves. Too much bathroom clutter remains a top pet peeve even for marriages of over 20 years.

Luckily, the bathroom is an equal opportunity mess.

Cleaning the bathroom is a less-than-savory chore, but 31.9% of respondents said that they split cleaning duties equally with their spouse! Surprisingly enough, only 1.3% of couples report that their kids are responsible for cleaning the bathroom. Let’s hope those kids are earning their keep somehow!

Sharing is caring, but hands off my loofah!

Only 7% of women responded that they share a loofah with their husbands. Interestingly enough, 13.1% of men reported that they do, indeed, share their wife’s loofah.

Something is amiss here—there must be some top secret exfoliation going on behind closed shower curtains.

At least there’s something we all can agree on.

An overwhelming majority of respondents, nearly 80%, agree that the ideal length of shower time is between 5 and 15 minutes. Over 40% of both men and women also agree that taking 15 to 30 minutes to get ready is about right.
