The album cover shows Avril Lavigne standing in front of a dull, faded and grey background. the colour contrast is black and white however the album name and a red cross on her jacket are in red. The title on the cover are displayed in a ink print style, the letters are all different sizes , some are faded or appear to have smudged. The background itself looks as if water has leaked on it, this connotes the tears and emotion gone into the songs. The colour theme of the cover represents the style of the songs as they are mainly about heartbreak (sterotypical of a singer/ song writer.) The red cross on her jacket stands out the most out of anything on the cover, the cross connotes her wearing a cross on her sleeve rather than her heart.

I n s i d e S l e e v e

The inside sleeve is a pull-out booklet which contains song lyrics and photos of the artist . The artist does not appear to smile or show any emotion in any of the photographs, the back grounds of the pictures are all dull greys or browns. The artists clothing also represents her mood as she only seems to wear black. Avril has a very punk pop style to her clothing and singing and this is represented in her clothing.

The CD disk to the album continues a black and red theme throughout the album, the red cross seen on her jacket can be seen again as the main focus on the CD, again the picture and title are a print style so look faded and worn. The cross on the CD connotes a no entry sign as if you are entering her diary and personal thoughts by listening to her songs.

B a c k C o v e r

The back cover again shows a grey background with water damage. The track list is set out in a paragraph rather than a long list, the font used for the track list is the same font used through out the album, this creates a theme and is memorable to fans. Underneath the track list is the artist laying down looking ill or even drunk. This denotes her feelings and emotions towards the songs, she looks exhausted and fed up. This concludes the whole theme of the album being sadness and heartache.
