Have you ever been in a tug-of-war with yourself? The person who you are in love with is just not making you happy anymore. You want to stay, but you have put in so much time with this person that you don't want to leave. What do you do? No one is perfect. We each have our ups and downs. When we come together in relationships, we bring along our issues hoping that our significant other will be our perfect match. We want them to want to come along for the ride- in hopes that they will support where we are going in our lives. Further, we want them to be happy and stay - sharing both the good times and bad times.

Relationships are cyclical. Everything will not always be perfect. It is up to the those involved to decide or determine if the changes in their relationships warrant staying and continuing on or giving in and walking away (hopefully remaining friends). Though, there are some serious red flags that should be well thought-out before you decide to stay in a romantic relationship with someone. The five reasons to reconsider continuing a relationship are as follows:

If your significant other – whether male or female is possessive of your time and choosing who you are spending your time with – BEWARE. Deciding who you can and cannot associate with (whether friends or family) is a sign of possession , isolation and “perhaps” future abuse. No one should ever have a say of who you can and cannot be around. If you cannot talk with your parents, siblings, and your dearest friends, it might be time to move on.

If your significant other comes with a book of instructions and guidelines and nothing you do is right, it might be time to move on. If he or she is consistently trying to tell you how to improve yourself, making you feel inadequate and unattractive and/or changing or lowering your self esteem, it’s time to rethink staying with this person.
