What is DVD-Video?

• what most people refer to as DVD. It is used to store videorecording of motion pictures.

• 4 ¾ in. in diameter• Can hold 4.7 billion bytes

This field was made obsolete in 2008 to simplify the series area so that all title series statements would be entered in the 490 field and all title series added entries in the 830.

• CONVERSION TO CURRENT FIELDSTo construct field 490 (Series Statement), set 490 indicator 1 to 1; set 490 indicator 2 to blank; concatenate field 440 subfields $a, $n and $p and place the new string into 490 subfield $a; and copy the content of 440 subfields $v, $x, $6, and $8 into the same subfields in field 490. Any additional subfields in field 440 do not convert to 490 but do convert to field 830.

• To construct field 830 (Series Added Entry - Uniform Title), all 440 indicators and subfields convert to field 830 with the same indicator values and same subfields.

guidelinesfor implementing the recent decision to make field 440 obsolete. The PCCrecommends that members implement this change beginning Oct 24, 2008.

DVD• DVD (also called DVD-Video) is the

video format, while DVD-ROM is a computer format, in the same way that CDs are an audio format and CD-ROM a computer format. They are all optical formats and cannot be wiped out by the desensitizer. DVD cataloging is very much like audio CD cataloging, DVD-ROM very much like CD-ROM.

• DVD is a visual medium played on a DVD player connected to a television and can also run on a computer DVD-ROM drive. The 300 field uses the term "videodisc" rather than "DVD" since only the computer format allows the use of popular terms (DVD-ROM and CD-ROM). If not mentioned elsewhere in the record add “DVD” in the 538 systems details note.
