WIRE FORMING

What is Wire Forming ?

• Wire forming is a term that incorporates many shapes, textures and dimensions. The forms are engineered in two or three dimensions and commonly generated from metal wire and sometimes from tube.

. Typically, the raw stock for wire forms is fed off of a coil that can

weigh as much 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) or as little as five pounds (2.3 kg).

In some cases, the raw material commences production in blank

forms that are fed from a hopper.

A wire form may be defined as any length of wire that has had some

force applied to it that changes the shape of the wire.

WIRE FORM OPERATION• Compression Spring Grinding- The ends of some compression springs are

ground flat to improve squareness and reduce buckling during operation.

• Wire Form Threading-Your application may call for the end of your

wire form to be threaded, so a knob or bolt can be assembled to it.

• Wire Form Chamfering- Some wire forms have one or both ends

chamfered to remove any sharp edges or to make the ends tapered.

• Wire Form Tapping- create an internal screw thread on your wire

form.

• Wire Form Welding-welding the ends of your wire forms together.
