The “sweet spot”

Let us take a look at the current stock of commercial and

residential facilities

Aim for the largest segment of usage.

What does the future look like to us?

• Energy Efficiency:

– increasing efficiency reduces kWh and MCF revenues

• Demand Reductions, kW, are much harder to obtain; but are much more beneficial

– Benefits of demand reduction go across the stakeholder chain, back through the RTO & ISO to generation, cleaner air, and new revenues

• Power Factor improvements are not well understood (for another time!)

WHAT ARE GHEXs?

• WHAT DO GROUND SOURCE HEAT EXCHANGERS (GHEX) DO?

– SOMETHING THAT COAL, NATURAL GAS, NUCLEAR, WIND, SOLAR, HYDRO, BIO-FUELS, AND ELECTRIC kW CANNOT DO…MOVE BTUs

– DIRECTLY CONDITION THE SPACE FOR PEOPLE

– DIRECTLY CONDITION THE DOMESTIC HOT WATER FOR PEOPLE

– ALWAYS AVAILABLE, 24X7X365

WHAT ARE GHEXs?• Critical Conversations and Dialogue

a. Identify conflict situations and difficult conversations that if handled effectively would have the biggest impact on results.b. Explain what dialogue is and how it affects success.c. Explain the attitudes and skills that are necessary to get to dialogue in conflict situations.

• Look and Learn: See Safety at Riska. Understand how safety affects conflict and one’s ability to have successful critical conversations.b. Recognize six behaviors that indicate when safety is at risk.c. Identify how they react and handle stressful conversations and situations

• Creating Safety – How to Increase Candor While Decreasing Defensivenessa. Identify the two conditions of safety: Mutual Purpose and Mutual Respectb. Use three safety-building skills at the appropriate times.

• How to Master Emotions that Destroy Dialoguea. Think their way to the root cause of negative emotions.b. Identify and question the stories that create emotions.c. Recognize when mistakes are fueling their reactions.d. Influence emotions so that they can get to dialogue and get desired results.

• Persuasive Not Abrasive: Learn to state your path.a. Use five skills for sharing potentially threatening messages in a way that minimizes defensiveness.b. Share strong opinions without shutting down contrary views.

• How to Power Up Your Listeninga. Use key listening skills to encourage others to share issues they are fearful of bringing up.b. Use these same skills to avoid getting caught up in others’ strong emotions and to get to the meaning behind their emotions.c. Disagree with others without pushing them to silence or violence.

• Learn to take Action – Making Decisions and Improving Accountabilitya. Summarize everything learned thus far.b. Turn dialogue into desired results.c. Clarify how decisions will be made before people create false expectations.

WHAT ARE GSHPs?

• CO2e Parity for GHEX

– 12,000 Space BTUs reduces fossil fuel inputs at the power plant by 12,122 BTUs and (with a COP of 4) an additional 21,122 BTUs (9000 BTUs the earth and 3000 BTUs (or 0.88 kW from the utility)
