Blending is important both as part of the planning process, to decide how refinery process units should be operated, and also in order to determine how blendstocks should be combined to ensure that they are all economically utilised and product specifications are met safely, efficiently and economically. Course Description This 2 day Blending course provides an overview of the necessary elements of the blending process for the key refinery products and an insight into how the optimum blends should be calculated. Future changes in product specifications will be discussed along with the implications to the refiner. After completing this course you will: Achieve a better understanding of why product blending is necessary

Understand the importance of blending in a modern refinery and the impact on the economics of refining

Learn how Linear Programming (LP) are used to optimise blends

Appreciate the relevance of the key product specifications

Be able to calculate the qualities of blended products using the best techniques

Examine the valuation of blendstocks and their relevance in producing products most economically

Be able to blend biofuels with conventional components

Monitor quality performance and estimate the cost of quality giveaway Who Should Attend This is a comprehensive core skills course for professionals dealing with all aspects of the refining industry. It is clearly of benefit to all process engineers and analysts involved in refinery planning and scheduling activities, and also those engineers involved in the design and troubleshooting of refinery facilities. It is also considered essential for all process engineers involved in technical service work on refinery units that produce streams that are blending components so that they understand the economic importance of component qualities and the consequence of process and quality changes.
