  • General precautions

Purpose that TR series can be used

All TR series are a general-purpose industrial products. It is a system component and is used in conjunction

with other items of industrial equipment such as PLCs, Adjustable Speed Drives (such as inverter), etc. TR

series are designed and produced carefully enough, but it is necessary to note it when using it for the following

    usages.

TR series is not designed to be used for the systems which can endanger human life (equipment used to

medical treatments, such as life-support system, surgical equipment, etc). Do not use TR series for those

    usages.

If you intend to use TR series for a special application which involves human life or has great influence on

the public function (the system that needs very advanced reliability or safety-critical system such as

control/safety system of nuclear power plant or nuclear facility, the operation control system of mass

transportation system, the equipment/ system related to aerospace, the equipment/system used in very

    severe environment), please consult us.

These system needs special consideration (fail safe design, fool proof design, redundant design, etc.) for the

    design, operation, and the maintenance.

For the safety design of your system/machine

Safety is the most important for all systems/machine. Even if it is used on the assumed worst condition, it is

necessary to prevent the system/machine from endangering the person. To protect the user, the third party,

and the property, please note following items at the system design.

Protect user and third party from a hazardous locations and the part (movable part, sharp part, where

voltage or heat is applied, etc.) as much as possible with cover and safety devices.

When carelessly resetting systems/machine after emergency stops, movable part might begin to move

suddenly. When network communications is used, there is a possibility that data and the command become

improper because of a noise and an incorrect operation, or the communication is not done for some

reasons. Measures not to become a hazardous situation are necessary even if these occur. It is necessary

to design interlock that all the movable parts are locked until safety is confirmed, and control shifts to a

local mode when communication device is not possible to communicate, etc.

Never use TR units to perform emergency stop mechanism. Compose the safety system of not relying on

TR series. Even if TR series or a part of the system/device break down, system/machine should be able to

    be stopped safely.

Even if the system/machine has the improvement and modification, do not let the above-mentioned

    function be lost.

  • Disposal

Never dispose of electrical components (including TR series) via incineration. It generates a poisonous gas, and

there is danger to which the fire and the explosion. And, this deteriorations the law in many cases, pollutes the

    global environment.

When you dispose TR series, handle TR series as industrial waste. Contact environmental agency for details on

disposal of electrical components and packaging in your area.

    Exemption matters

We do not assume the responsibility of the following damage at all.

Damage caused because natural disasters such as fires, earthquakes, and other accidents.

Damage due to fault and misuse of user or third party, use on abnormal condition.

Damage because of use or being not able use of TR (such as loss at business profit and chance),

interruption of business, change and disappearance etc. of memory content.

Damage caused by having combined with other equipment such as malfunction etc.

Damage caused by not having observed content of this manual.

Damage caused by combination with project that customer made, sample program described in this manual,

    or program that modifies it.

    About this manual

This manual is described about TR SPUX series logic controller and TR PGMS01 programming software. Please

read well before using. When you use sample program described in this manual, confirm safety enough. We do

not take responsibility for the result that executed a sample program listed in this manual at all.

    What is TR PMIU series?

Thank you for purchasing TR PMIU series. TR PMIU series is graphical color touch panel unit that ladder logic

function is built into. All models have serial communication port, and some models has Expansion slot for IO unit.

Moreover, they have data logger and alarm function. The display, the operation, and the control of a small-scale

machine can be handled with this one. This will replace many switches, timers, and relays used of your

    machine/system.

    Requirement

Following things are necessary for developing TR series.

    Personal computer (PC)

TR PGMS01 programming software requires IBM PC/AT Compatible system that has Pentium

800MHz or equivalent CPU, 256MB of RAM, 800MB of HDD free space, Windows OS (Windows

    2000

    SP4, Windows

    XP Professional SP2 or Home edition SP2) , Display (800x600 High-color 16bit),

Keyboard and mouse, one USB or RS232C Serial port (We recommend USB port).

    TR PGMS01 software

You must install this software before start development. All settings of the TR series are done from this.

    DC 24V Power supply

Power source of all TR series. The power of most digital Expansion I/O unit is supplied from PMIU unit,

but the Expansion I/O units that has relay output or analog I/O requires specially power supply for relay

coil/AD converter. Protect the power supply with the circuit breaker for safety.

USB cable (type A male/type B male) or Serial cable

USB connection is recommended. Serial communication (RS233C) is more low-speed than USB, and the

function is limited. If you want to connect by serial communication, refer Append. C.

Device necessary for debugging or check of operation

Expansion I/O unit, Tools, wiring material, device connected with TR unit, etc. Developing as much as

possible in a near environment facilitates developing, and decreases the trouble. The device actually

used is recommended to be prepared as much as possible.

    About TR PGMS01

TR PGMS01 is setting and programming software for the all TR series. This can use all TR series including TR

PMIU series touch panel monitor and Expansion I/O unit for it.

Installation and uninstallation of TR PGMS is similar to general Windows software. To start setup, click

setup.exe in program folder, then set up wizard is started. When the installation is completed, reboot your PC.

To remove TR PGMS from your computer, open the control panel of Windows, and select "Add or remove

    programs", "Change or remove programs".

We recommend this software to be used in an English environment. Some functions (function related to display

and language) might not be able to be used normally under 2bytes character (language chiefly used in east Asia,

    Middle East, etc) environment.

  • 3

    Important term of operation

About detail of each term, refer later chapter.

Tag Tag is all registers or devices addressed in all TR series unit or other devices communicating with

PMIU unit. There are much kind of tags corresponding to data type (Bit, numerical data, retentive

area, system setting, etc). All the tags of a current project are registered in Tag Database. You can

refer/add/edit/remove tag from here. Refer 5.1.

Task Task is defined operation and is executed specific timing. All the tasks of a current project is

registered in Task list corresponding to execution timing. Refer 6.1.

    Download/Upload/Online

The transfer of project data from your PC to PMIU unit is called Download, the transfer from PMIU

unit to your PC is called Upload. You can monitor edit tags of PMIU unit in RUN mode, it is called

    ONLINE mode. Refer 3.2.4.

    PMIU unit/Expansion I/O unit

PMIU unit mean TR PMIU0300L/A or TR PMIU0500L/A. The color of case is black. You can connect

Expansion I/O unit to PMIU unit up to 3 (in PMIU0300A) or 5 (in PMIU0500A) units. Expansion I/O

unit cannot use alone, you must use it with PMIU unit. The color of case is red.

Node The device which it is connected to the COM port, and communicates. For example, if 3 inverters

and 1 touch panel is connected, there is 4 nodes. The table of all nodes is called node list. Refer 4.1.

Project Minimum unit of files edited with TR PGMS. All data necessary to operate PMIU unit and Expansion

I/O unit (such as unit settings, communication setting, node list, firmware, ladder program, screen

    data, etc) are contained.

Key All TR PMIU unit has 6 Function keys with red LED (Function key LED) in right side of the screen.

You can assign various usage for these keys and LEDs. Refer 9.2.

Object All things that is put on screen. Some objects can display the data, or can control tags. Such as line,

rectangle, display data, trend graph, etc

  • 4

    How to development

The development order is roughly as follows.

Step 1. Prepare the environment for development. Create New project in PGMS.

Step 2. Set COM port of unit, and define communication node.

Step 3. Define and register tag.

Step 4. Define tasks, create ladder block. To define task, it is necessary to define tag beforehand.

    Step 5. Set unit function.

    Step 6. Design screen.

Step 7. Download project to PMIU unit, check operation and debug project.

The order of each step might change places and go back. Advance development by the method it is easy for you.

But, note the following relations. An extra going back happens when it makes a mistake in these orders.

Tag is necessary to define Task.

Registration of Node is necessary to add tags of the communication device.

Therefore, when you add the task that uses tag of communication device, the order "Add Node ", "Register Tag

", and "Define Task" should not be replaced.

    2.4.12.4.12.4.12.4.1 Unpacking and accessory

When you open package, check the type and the number of the

contents. Unit is wrapped by vinyl bag, and Mounting clamps (4pcs),

Power supply connector (1pcs), a silica gel bag (this is a desiccant and

is protecting unit from moisture while transporting it) are attached in

box (Power supply connector is not attached to some Expansion I/O

unit). If the type or the number is different from your order, or if

damage/trouble is found, please report to us immediately except the

case that is clear that it is an accident under transportation.

When unit is breaks down, it is necessary to send back unit to us. We

    recommend package to be kept.

    2.4.22.4.22.4.22.4.2 Attention of installation location

Before installation of units, consider the following matters.

Location that unit must not be installed

There is corrosive/explosive/flammable gas, vapors or dust, oil/water mist.

Where water, oil, or chemical are sprayed to, or dropped on unit.

Only when the PMIU unit is appropriately set in the panel that endures water, front side of the unit

endures a weak spray of water. However, a strong jet flow cannot be endured. Note that the back of unit

    has no protection.

Place where fast temperatures fluctuate or high humidity exists.

Place where vibration, shock, or stress might be applied to unit. (Note that connected wires not be pulled.)

Place with strong electromagnetic noise (near adjustable speed drive, servo drive, motor driven by them,

switching power supply, contactor, high frequency heating furnace, electric furnace, etc).

    Note for installation

When front seat (it is a thin plastic sheet put on the front surface of touch panel) is damaged, dust, water

etc. are infiltrated into inside of unit case. Do not touch, press or throw touch panel with hard and sharp

pointed things (such as pen point, screwdriver, etc), high temperature things, things with pointed corner. Do

not touch the chemical that might be deteriorated or dissolve the plastic.

There is no protection in the back of unit (part that becomes the other side of the panel at the mount), the

heat radiation hole is open in this part. Never wet or dirty, protect from dust, vapor, etc.

It is necessary to radiate heat of unit. Note ventilation around the unit. Moreover, it is necessary to avoid

that the device that generates heat or blows up hot wind is right under the unit. When you install unit in

cubicle, note that cubicle doesn't become a high temperature because of sunlight etc.

Enough space is necessary to handle wiring. Consider height of terminal block and the space of wiring. Give

wires appropriate slack. Do not apply any stress to the PMIU unit, Expansion I/O unit, connector, terminal

    block and cable.

  • 20

If you try to set up unit in the place with strong electromagnetic noise, give measures carefully. Earth wire

must use fat wire as much as possible and wire shortest distance. Independent earth, cubicle earth, shield

(earthed metal plate that blocks off noise), shielded twist pare cable, insulation transformer, insertion of

ferrite core are effective to prevent noise. For some cases, isolation from the ground may lead to the stable

    operation.

Unit cannot be used in outdoor. When exposed to strong sunlight for a long term, plastics used in exterior

might be deteriorated by UV rays of sunlight, or rain water might be infiltrated in the unit. When using TR

series in outdoor, install unit in cubicle.

2.62.62.62.6 Operation and maintenanceOperation and maintenanceOperation and maintenanceOperation and maintenance

All units require periodically check and maintenance. When you check, be careful about the following matters.

    Note for Electrostatic discharge

Static electricity is accumulated in human body. It causes electrostatic discharge and destroys sensitive

electric devices (LSI, IC, etc) easily. To discharge static electricity, before touching unit, touch the metal

connected with earth. Use electrostatic hazard shoes, ESD wristband. Do not touch any electrode or metal

part of unit. Especially, be careful when you connect/disconnect programming cable.

Do not install/remove Expansion I/O unit while unit power is ON

When you install/remove Expansion I/O unit, turn OFF power supply of the PMIU unit.

Do not insert finger, wire, tool tip etc. into unit case

Unit case has heat radiation hole, connector hole etc. The invasion of these may cause malfunction of unit,

    fire or electrical shock.

    2.6.12.6.12.6.12.6.1 Maintenance items

    LED status

When PMIU unit is operating normally, POWER LED is lit.

    Screen

Screen of PMIU unit should be clean. If there is dirt, wipe with clean closes.

    Installation state

PMIU unit should be fixed to panel surely, and Expansion I/O units should be attached to PMIU unit surely.

There must not be loosening in the installation.

    Connected wires and wire terminals

All connectors and terminal blocks should be installed surely, all wire should be appropriate slack. Wire

covering, connector or terminal block must not be discoloration or damage, wire terminal must not be dirt or

    discoloration.

The discoloration of the metal might have been caused because of an abnormal current/voltage or

overheating. The dirt/scorching of connector, wiring terminal and of surroundings might cause the

short-circuit accident. Note that wire covering that passes a long term becomes hard and is damaged easily.

    Project (software) backup

We recommend periodically backup of project for an unexpected memory loss (it may be caused by strong

EMC noise, lightning accident, etc). You can Online or Upload project freely while unit power is ON and unit

    mode is RUN mode.

  • 26

    2.6.22.6.22.6.22.6.2 Trouble shooting

If PMIU unit causes malfunction, or any unit emits smoke or odor, shut OFF all power of your system/machine

    immediately and safely.

When you check the system/machine, give measures carefully so that harmful operation should not happen.

Make sure enough safety when you turn ON the power when investigate the failure cause.

    If the problem is found in the TR unit, check the following points;

    1. Supply of power

    2. PMIU unit

    3. Input and output of Expansion I/O unit

    4. Remove all Expansion I/O units and check PMIU unit alone. If PMIU unit operates normally, connect each

Expansion I/O unit one by one. There is possibility that breakdown of some unit causes overall

    malfunction.

    5. Check operation of unit in the place where a trouble happened. If the unit operates normally, some

environmental factor may causes trouble. If unit causes malfunction synchronously with other

    device/machine/equipment, they might cause trouble.

    Supply of power

    POWER LED

POWER LED is lit or blinking when power is supplied to the unit regardless of unit mode. If not lit, power

is not supplied to PMIU unit.

    Wiring of power supply

Check connection of wire and terminal block. Screws of terminal block should be tighten surely, and

terminal block should be inserted to connector of unit surely.

The core wire which came loose may short-circuit with the next terminal.

    Input voltage

Check polarity and voltage (DC24V +/- 15%) at power supply connector of unit. Do not connect AC to

the unit. Electromagnetic noise, voltage fluctuations, surge of voltage must not superimpose to power line.

If the capacity of the power supply is extremely small, when the input/output circuit operates, or supply

voltage is dropped by inrush current of unit, unit might not be able to be booted.

    Cable

If POWER LED become lit when remove cable (communication cable or programming cable), the there is

short-circuit in the external connections of the port. Check USB or serial cable, or USB/COM port of

    your PC.

  • 27

    PMIU unit

    LED status

PMIU unit has POWER LED in top left of case. If it is blinking, there may be some error. There are 2 cases,

    communication error and RUN-force mode.

    Operation mode

Connect PC to PMIU unit and check operation mode of PMIU. If PMIU mode is RUN-F mode, unit

operates normally even if Expansion I/O unit attached to PMIU unit is different from project, and the I/O

status of Expansion I/O unit is not updated.

    Input

    Input signal status

Check signals at the terminal of Expansion I/O unit. If the screw of signal terminal is loosen, the signal

may repeat unstable chattering. And, the core wire which came loose may short-circuit with the next

    terminal.

If input signal is OK, unit may be faulty. Replace the unit with new one.

    Usage of input device/register

Connect PC and monitor the input register/device in RUN mode. If the monitored device is changed

corresponding to the external signal, the cause might be in the project.

Check usage of the device/register in project. Note that unit is operation normally in RUN-F mode even

if Expansion I/O unit is mismatch.

    Output

    Output status of unit

Output changes according to the execution of the program. If no, check IO allocation and usage of the

device/register in project. Note that unit is operation normally in RUN-F mode even if Expansion I/O unit

    is mismatch.

The core wire which came loose may short-circuit with the next terminal.

    External device connected to output

If I/O of unit is operates normally, check input specification of external devices connected to the unit.

    Environmental factors

Troubles may caused by severe electromagnetic noise, difference of grounding potentials between unit and

external circuit, mechanical shock/vibration, high/low temperature, dewfall, oil mist, water drop, dust, etc.

Only when appropriately set up in the panel that endures water, front side of unit endures a weak spray of water.

However, a strong jet flow cannot be endured. The material of the front seat cannot endures some kind of oil,

chemicals etc. Note that back of unit has no protection.

Moreover these factors shorten the life of the unit. Avoid these factors or give measures at installation.

Noise might enter to unit via wires. Isolation of I/O signal, or earth line may lead to the stable operation in some

  • 28

cases. Check the unit in the different location (There is no factor which gives harmful influence to the unit).

If the unit operates normally, there is a possibility the installation environment has some problem.

Timing of the trouble may become an important factor for a specific cause. If trouble occurs synchronously with

the operation of external device/machine/equipment etc, they might cause the trouble.

If the improper operation occurs when specific time/time zone, check installation environment of unit. There is

a possibility of becoming dewfall or severe high/low temperature in control panel because of the ambient

temperature, sunlight, the heat generated by equipment of control panel or close to the control panel, etc.

Check that no garbage or water drop or oil mist has been entered into the unit. Consider climatic conditions.

    3.3.13.3.13.3.13.3.1 Overview

PMIU unit can execute ladder logic.

Ladder circuit is described in the Ladder

    logic block (ladder block).

There are 4 kinds of ladder block. All

ladder blocks exist in one of these 4

folders. When you click Logic Blocks

folder, list of the screen that exists in

current project is displayed in the

    workspace area.

There are 6 folders in Logic Blocks folder.

Each folder has corresponding ladder block. Program

capacity of each ladder logic block has no limitation.

Total capacity for ladder blocks is 48KB, 8192 steps. You

can refer current ladder capacity in Application Memory

    Status (refer 3.2.5).

Maximum number of block is 256, block number need not

    be consecutive.

You can compile project while editing, for checking syntax error of ladder. Click button of Global tool bar

or press F9 key of your PC, then project is compiled. If there is an error, error message is displayed under

    3.3.23.3.23.3.23.3.2 Kinds of Ladder block

    Power Up Logic block

This block is executed only once when unit power is turned ON, and it is not executed afterwards.

    Main logic block

This block is started after Power Up logic block and executed every scanning while PMIU unit is RUN or RUN-F

mode. You can refer Ladder scan time at SW 0048 (Ladder scan time).

Operation image of Power-Up and Main logic blocks is shown as follow.

    Timer Interrupt

When interrupt timer is turned ON, other operation (execution of Main logic block, tasks etc) is suspended and

this block is executed. If execution of this block is completed, execution of Main logic block is resumed. Priority

is highest in all tasks/logic blocks. Interrupt interval can set by System parameter. Refer 3.5.

    Subroutine

This block is executed only when Subroutine call instruction is executed. While executing the subroutine block,

processing of main block is stopped. If execution of this block is completed, execution of Main logic block is

resumed. About detail, refer Subroutine call instruction of Ladder reference manual.

    I/O interrupt #1, #2
