I have more than 30 year’s hands-on professional experience in the marine industry, as a yacht designer, boatbuilder, surveyor, and marine operations and business manager. My most recent work includes:

• The planning and supervision of ship-fitting for a 45 meter high-performance composite military patrol vessel.

• The start-up planning and prototype construction management for a new line of 20 meter high performance catamaran motor yachts.

• The design and supervision of fabrication and installation of ultra-light interior joinery and furniture for crew accommodations for a series of 21 meter Hovercraft patrol/support craft.

My background also includes several years as senior executive of Palmer Johnson Yachts, during which tenure I directed the development and sale of several hundred million dollars in new yacht construction and major refit work, including the construction and delivery of a dozen luxury megayachts in the 30- to 60-meter range.

I’ve also operated my own custom boatbuilding shops, and maintained an active yacht design, survey, and marine consulting practice. Several yachts have been built to my designs in various parts of the world. A number of these have made successful trans-oceanic passages.

During my years as Senior Editor for Power & Motoryacht magazine, I tested and evaluated hundreds of yachts worldwide. As both a staff and freelance writer, I’ve published more than 600 articles on yacht design, construction, repair, and maintenance in a wide variety of marine publications.

I’ve spoken publicly many times over the years, most recently on project management and boatyard contracts respectively at two recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show MIASF – Super Yacht Society InfoUSA seminars. I continue to write, and publish blogs on yacht project planning and operations management at www.BoatbuildConsult.com and www.YachtBuildAdvisor.com.
