Introduction The Word Ornithopter is derived from a Greek Word

‘Ornithos’

Which means bird and “Ptreon’’ means ‘wing’The first attempt for making the Ornithopter was done at

France in 1871

DESIGN AND FABRICATION

• Since our first approach is to learn from natural flyers and mimic them we want to design our ornithopter wings based on the designs of the following

1 .Bat

2.Beetle

3. Dragonfly

Acrylic Physical Benefits

• Formable :With a little heat, it's easy to shape and mold.

• Durable :Impact resistance that stands the test of time.

• Weather able :Stands up to the elements longer than other plastics.

Micro Controller for Operation

• A microcontroller is a programmable device• Normally it is provided with the elements of a computer

(memory, processor, CD-ROM etc• plus pins (wiring connections) that allow sending on-off

signals out and receiving them• Microcontroller to

Gather input from various sensors Process this input into a set of actions

Specifications of Microcontroller

• 8051 Microcontroller can operate11.MHZ.• Facility to connect to PC.• PS-8051 board supports Assembly and “C

“ language• PS – 8051 works on +9V DC at 1 Amp.

Camera

We use a wireless camera which can transfer the

target area to a nearer Display unit

Resolution: • 720x320 pixels • Can transmit up to 20 meters range• Capable of taking photographs at good quality

Page 15: Ornithopter project

Advantages

• Used for army purpose

• Light in weight

• We can control the mechanical bird through remote

• Camera is fitted to view the target area

• Compact in size

• Any one can fly this mechanical flying bird

CONCLUSION

• Ornithopters have been a relatively obscure area of research in comparison to fixed wing aircraft and field of ornithopter design is sparsely populated.
