About the Course Oil and Liquefied Gas Tanker Operations is a comprehensive separately bookable course designed to provide participants with a technical perspective of shipping operations. The 4 day course will cover technical designs and features of tankers, operational execution based on charterparty terms, port, cargo and ballasting operations, tank cleaning, safety assessment and procedures, all broken down and discussed in detail. In addition, tanker owners, managers, operators and charterers will learn how to best minimize any operational claims and disputes due to accidents either out at sea or berthing at ports. The course includes real life case studies based on recent tanker incidents and causes, combined with interactive lectures and short videos to illustrate commercial, legal and operational issues revolving around a cargo cycle of a tanker. About your Expert Trainer: CAPTAIN QUENTIN COX Captain Cox started his seagoing career with the BP Tanker Company in 1980 as a deck cadet and rose to the rank of Chief Officer, having attained his Master Mariners Certificate of Competency. With BP he worked extensively on crude oil, refined product, fuel oil and LPG tankers and enjoyed world-wide trading patterns. He then moved into consultancy work which largely

involved ship vetting and cargo expediting. He witnessed the development of certain vetting regimes, especially those involving tankers. During this period he extended his tanker experience to include chemical tankers, as well as oil and LPG carriers.

After another brief period at sea on a multitude of ship types, Captain Cox joined Warsash Maritime Academy, teaching on tanker endorsement courses. During this period he added to his consultancy work particularly involving port and dock area risk assessment. He also extended his academic portfolio with a Master’s degree in Open and Distance Education. He is a committee member of the International Maritime Lecturers’ Association, frequently representing the Association at the International Maritime Organisation. His work with the Accreditation and Approvals Panel of the Energy institute has taken him to many and varied educational institutions. Captain Cox is a co-author of the ‘Manual of Oil Tanker Operations’ published in 2011 and is currently authoring a second publication on chemical tankers.
