INTRODUCTION OF KSTPS

▪ LOCATION:-

It is located on the left bank of the CHAMBAL river

▪ BASED ON RANKINE CYCLE:-

A thermal power plant is a power plant in which the prime mover is steam. Water is heated, turns into steam and spins a turbine which drives an electrical generator. After it passes through the turbine, the steam is condensed in a condenser and recycled to where it was heated; this is known as a Rankine cycle.

▪ TOTAL GENERATING CAPACITY:- 1240 MW

GENERAL LAYOUT

Page 8: KOTA SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION PPT

BOILER

▪ Boiler is a place where water is being converted into steam with burning of coal.

▪ It is closed vessel in which water under high pressure converted into steam.

▪ Type : Water Tube Boiler

▪ Capacity : 375 tons per hour

▪ Steam temperature : 540 °C

▪ Steam pressure :139gm/Cm2

▪ Efficiency : 86.6%

WATER TREATMENT PLANT

▪ Pressure filter removes impurities from raw water.

▪ Carbon filter removes excess chlorine from clarified water.

▪ Demineralizing treatment plant removes dissolved impurities from clarified water.

▪ Conductivity, pH & silica content of this water must be checked time to time.

Page 11: KOTA SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION PPT

ECONOMISER

▪ Flue gases coming out of the boiler carries lot of heat.

▪ Economiser uses this heat and heats feed water before entering into the boiler.

▪ It improves the efficiency of plant 10-12%.

▪ Temperature : 315 °C

Page 12: KOTA SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION PPT

AIR PRE-HEATER

▪ Air Pre-Heater is used to preheat the air before entering into furnace.

▪ It recovers the heat of flue gases coming from Economiser.

Page 13: KOTA SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION PPT

SUPER HEATER

▪ Super Heater is used to remove the moisture content from the steam.

▪ It raises the temperature of steam.

▪ Advantage:

▪ Increase efficiency

▪ Reduces corrosion of turbine blades.

Page 14: KOTA SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION PPT

CONDENSER

▪ It reduce the turbine exhaust pressure so as to increase the specific output of the turbine.

▪ It recover high quality feed water in the firm of condensate and feed it back to the steam generator without any further treatment.

Page 15: KOTA SUPER THERMAL POWER STATION PPT

DE-ARATOR

▪ The condensed water is passed by a feed pump through a Dearater.

▪ It is used to remove extra air and non-condensable gases are removed from the hot water to avoid pitting / oxidation.

STEAM TURBINE▪ Steam turbine is a rotating machine which converts kinetic energy of

the STEAM into mechanical energy.

▪ Type : Impulse Turbine

▪ Types of TURBINE according to steam flow

▪ High Pressure TURBINE : 25 blades and single flow

▪ Inter Mediate Pressure TURBINE : 17 blades and single flow

▪ Low Pressure TURBINE : 8 blades and double flow
