INTRODUCTIONCement was invented in England in 1824 and is a key ingredient inconcrete. Every year the average family uses one tonne of cementwithout even knowing it. No house, school, bridge or road wouldbe built without it. and can be mixed on building sites or suppliedready mixed from a concrete plant. The UK’s first ready mixedconcrete plant was set up by a company called Ready MixedConcrete (RMC) in the 1930s. In 2005, CEMEX acquiredRMC.Today CEMEX is one of the world’s largest buildingmaterials companies. It is a leading supplier of aggregates (sand,gravel and crushed rock), cement and ready mixed concrete. Itoperates in more than 50 countries and employs over 50,000people.

There are three main sectors ofindustry. CEMEX’s business covers all threesectors of industry:

Primary – involves extraction, processing anduse of raw materials from the earth

Secondary - manufacturing finished goods andconstruction activity

CEMEX has identified seven indicators to achievea balance between its operations and theenvironment. CEMEX has identified sevenindicators to achieve a balance between itsoperations and the environment.

CEMEX has realized that achieving sustainableperformance requires moving the company cultureforward. This means it needs to change the way itspeople and its operations behave. To achievechange requires action in each of the seven areas.

INTRODUCTION

Tesco is the largest British retailer and is also theworld's third largest grocery retailer with outletsacross Europe, USA and Asia. The business beganin 1919 with one man, Jack Cohen, selling groceriesfrom a stall in the East End of London. Jack boughtsurplus stocks of tea from a company called T.E.Stock well. T.E. Stock well and Cohen combinedtheir names to brand the tea Cohen originally soldTESCO tea. In 1929, the first Tesco store opened innorth London.
