Industrial Internet :-
• It is integration of complex physical machinery with networked sensors and software.
• The industrial Internet draws together fields including the Internet of things and machine-to-machine communication to ingest data from machines, analyze it (often in real-time), and use it to adjust operations.
INTRODUCTION
NEED OF INDUSTRIAL INTERNET
According to Jon Bruner :-
“ The big machines that define modern life – cars, airplanes, furnaces, and so forth have become exquisitely efficient, safe, and
responsive for the last century through constant mechanical refinement but mechanical refinement has its limits, and there are enormous improvements to be wrung out of the way that big machines are operated; and efficient furnace is still wasteful if it heats a building that no one is using ; a safe car is still dangerous in the hands of bad driver”.
“ It is now challenge that industrial internet promises to address by layering smart software on top of machines.”
• The system can even enable dealers to forecast impending maintenance issues & schedule repairs before there is a breakdown.

• It is not actually an internet for machines, systems like the industrial internet do give machines a voice. Heeding what they say can save a company’s money.

Industrial Internet in John Deere• Owners of John Deere farm equipment benefit from the company’s
JDLink monitoring system, which tracks operations in real time and includes GPS information all instantly available in the cab.
• This system links sensors to a network gives owners a way to gather data like vibration, voltage, sound, temperature or electrical output
from machines.
• This type of analog data, previously inaccessible or hard to measure, lets owners monitor machine health.
• It also allows a JD Dealer – with a farmer’s permission- to remotely peer inside the machine and diagnose upcoming issues.

SCADA in JDLink • SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) is a system operating
with coded signals over communication channels so as to provide control of remote equipment.
• The supervisory system may be combined with a data acquisition system by adding the use of coded signals over communication channels to acquire information about the status of the remote equipment for display or for recording functions.
• According to Bradicich :-
“JD moves SCADA beyond a single manufacturing floor for a single use in the field. When analog information can be collected in a cloud system or a private network, The SCADA type scale grows exponentially and so do its uses”.

Over the last 200 years, the world has experienced several waves of innovation.Successful companies learned to navigate these waves and adapt to the changingenvironment. Today we are at the cusp of another wave of innovation that promises to change the way we do business and interact with the world of industrial machines.
FIRST WIND
• First Wind is an independent North American renewable
energy company focused on the development, financing,
construction, ownership and operation of utility-scale power projects in
the United States.
• It is one of GE’s Industrial Internet customer, who has recently added
more sensors to its turbine to measure temperature, wind speeds and
locations and pitch of blades.
• Software collects and analyzed the data, enabling the operation of
each turbine to be observed moment-by-moment in response to the
data.

• The advanced monitoring capabilities
allow project owners to target problems
faster, diagnose issues fully before a
technician arrives, and isolate
maintenance with fewer disruptions to
the overall wind farm.
• In winter, the analysis might show that the turbine blades are icing up,
and the corrective measures, such as speeding the turbine up or
changing the pitch of blades, could be taken.
• First wind of Boston, owns 16 wind farms in US.
Role of GE’s Technology in First Wind
• Using GE’s Wind CONTROL, turbine owners can earn back power that may
have been lost due to inefficient controls for meeting curtailment.
• The software automatically controls the output of each wind turbine in the
wind farm.
• The more precise regulation of power not only meets requirements despite
wind variation but also allows the wind turbines to run more efficiently and
reliably without compromising grid stability.
• By avoiding the continual stop and start of the turbines for power
regulation, GE`s Wind CONTROL eases the stresses on the wind turbines
and helps to extend the life of turbine components.
SECURITY ISSUES Favour- Human safety

- Connected infrastructure generally operates within tightly defined
networks - consistent transmission and control patterns
- Easier to apply deep packet inspection
Against
- Adding software on top of machines and connecting them to networks
creates tempting targets for malicious hackers.
- The inherent scalability of software means that a single exploit can
propagate fast.
- Threat of access to the network segments hosting devices.
- Modern infrastructure may be crucial to public health and safety.
CONCLUSION
Innovation has always been the single most powerful ingredient
to help us create more with less, to ease constraints, to generate
improving living standards for larger and larger numbers of
people.
The Industrial Internet holds the potential to drive the next
wave of innovation for the world by pushing even further the
boundaries of minds and machines.
• US is planning to become early adopter of this revolution, by
improving its infrastructure.
• If the US can secure a 1.5 percentage points acceleration in
productivity growth, and the rest of the world achieves just
half
that increase, within the next twenty years the Industrial
Internet will have added to the global economy an additional
$15 trillion i.e about the size of the US economy today.

FUTURE SCOPE
• We estimate that the Industrial Internet could add $2.8 Trillion
to Europe’s GDP by 2030—this is close to one-quarter of the
current size of the Euro Area’s economy. Over the next 15
years, an increase in efficiency of just 1%, could deliver
savings of $15 billion each in the power and healthcare
sectors, $6 billion in rail, $10 billion in oil and gas; and $9
billion in aviation.
