High Speed Machining – Working, Benefits And More!

A thumb rule that is universally followed in the Manufacturing industry is that the

best way to optimize efficiency is to apply automation. Practically in any operation

that you analyze, the one process that has multifold efficiency in the automation and

engineering sectors is the high speed machining. So how does one create a success

story, flaunting away humongous and complex piece rate? Well the secret lies (now

an open secret!) majorly in the implementation of high technology machine tools.

Lathes- Heavy Machining Necessities

A few specifications are of great importance when it comes to heavy duty machining

at forgacs. This is because of larger working units than what is seen in a normal

diameter. Two critical points of concern here are the spindle bore which should be

130mm and a bed width which is a lot more competent to handle the machine

capacity.

Here, the transverse arrangement is perfectly done for the top slide, cross slide

and saddle. Also, the carriages are sufficiently wide.

In case the components facing work are large, it is essential for the faceplates to

be adequately wide.

The spindle driven motor must be adequately powered.

Varying speeds of the spindles coupled with anti friction bearings.

A hardened sleeve and a rigid tail stock would aid in boosting the stability of

equipment while it is being operated.

As extra heavy duty pedestal lathes provide high versatility, larger output and more

efficient machining, they are always in great demand in the heavy machining industry.

To achieve high speed operation, more than 15 horse powered motors are exploited.

The spindles aid in producing surface finish of the highest quality and precise

machining, both being dynamically balanced.

The Planner type version is an extra heavy duty lath which works well for industrial

operations that require perfect finish and high precision. Few other important

features to take note are ground and hardened headstock gears, hardened bed ways,

spindle and steel headstock.

The output of the motor is about 22 kilowatts in terms of the maximum power

delivery.

Advantages- High Speed Machining

For very long time, until the recent modernization and sophistication of technology,

safety has always been a major concern. High speed turning based equipments run a

threat of being misaligned due to the centrifugal force that gets created with the

increasing super speed this further leads to a force which may cause the tool to

breakdown thereby affecting the quality of work.

Cooling pumps and coolant based systems have been incorporated to beat the

heat!

The grinding operations, subsequent ones are eliminated, saving on time and

improving the quality as well.

As the controls are more user-friendly, the tool and equipment time get reduced

substantially.

Another point of great importance is the invention of carbide and diamond bits.

These harder tools have an upper hand when it comes to efficiency as they take

longer time to wear out.

Through this process, heavy machining needs are indeed sorted for a huge

number of industries in varied sectors.
