1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We have decided that our team name will be “4 Friends”. There are four members in our team namely Sanchit Puranik , Ayaz Sheikha ,Apar Trivedi , Vatsal Bodiwala and we were guided by Prof. Kaushal patel . He has a sound practical knowledge and was indeed a good teacher who guided us through our project. He was friendly as well as strict at the same time.

Design thinking in engineering is to recalibrate engineering for this new era.It will be the mind over matter era. Continuously at each step, design involves iterations of thinking. At each step, we may modify the step ahead or concept taken at back. For this rigorous unidirectional efforts are required

A break from the theoretical subjects the Design Engineering leads us to a more practical path. Here we open our minds to new creative ideas and learn many new concepts out of the book. We get to observe practical locations and know the problems in the way of people in day to day life.

I. INTRODUCTION:-

The “Home Automation” concept has existed for many years. The terms “Smart Home”, “Intelligent Home” followed and has been used to introduce the concept of networking appliances and devices in the house. Home automation Systems (HASs) represents a great research opportunity in creating new fields in engineering, architecture and computing (Humidor and Milan, 2004).

HASs becoming popular nowadays and enter quickly in this emerging market. However, end users, especially the disabled and elderly due to their complexity and cost, do not always accept these systems. Due to the advancement of wireless technology, there are several different of connections are introduced such as GSM, WIFI, ZIGBEE, and Bluetooth.

Each of the connection has their own unique specifications and applications. Among the four popular wireless connections that often implemented in HAS project, Bluetooth is being chosen with its suitable capability. Bluetooth with globally available frequencies of 2400Hz is able to provide connectivity up to 100 meters at speed of up to 3Mbps depending on the Bluetooth device class [1]. In addition, a Bluetooth master device is able to connect up to 7 devices in a “Piconet”.

CONCLUSION :-

In conclusion, this low cost system is designed to improve the standard living in home. The remote control function by smart phone provides help and assistance especially to disabled and elderly. In order to provide safety protection to the user, a low voltage activating switches is replaced current electrical switches. Moreover, implementation of wireless Bluetooth connection in control board allows the system install in more simple way. The control board is directly installed beside the electrical switches whereby the switching connection is controlled by relay.

4. Design Considerations for detail design part

1. Security& safety:-

A household security system integrated with a home automation system can provide additional services such as remote surveillance of security cameras over the Internet, or central locking of all perimeter doors and windows

With home automation, the user can select and watch cameras live from an Internet source to their home or business. Security systems can include motion sensors that will detect any kind of unauthorized movement and notify the user through the security system or via cell phone.

The automation system can simulate the appearance of an occupied home by automatically adjusting lighting or window coverings. Detection systems such as fire alarm, gas leak, carbon monoxide, or water leaks can be integrated. Personal medical alarm systems allow an injured home occupant to summon help.

2. Cost:-

Costs mainly include equipment, components, furniture, and custom installation. Ongoing costs include electricity to run the control systems, maintenance costs for the control and networking systems, including troubleshooting, and eventual cost of upgrading as standards change. Increased complexity may also increase maintenance costs for networked devices.

Cloud-based services supporting an installation may also entail fees for setup, usage, or both. Learning to use a complex system effectively may take significant time and training. Control system security may be difficult and costly to maintain, especially if the control system extends beyond the home, for instance by wireless or by connection to the internet or other networks.

3. Intercoms:-

An intercom system allows communication via a microphone and loud speaker between multiple rooms. Integration of the intercom to the telephone, or of the video door entry system to the television set, allowing the residents to view the door camera automatically.

1. Bluetooth Module:

BLE112 is a Bluetooth Smart module targeted for low-power sensors and accessories.

It integrates all features required for a Bluetooth Smart application.

It is powered directly from a standard 3V coin cell battery or a pair of AAA batteries.

In the lowest power sleep mode it merely consumes 500 nA and will wake up within a few hundred microseconds.

2. Relay :

A relay is an electrically operated switch. Relays are used where it is necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal. Relays protect electrical circuits from overload or faults.

Page 13: Gujarat technological universit1

3. RESISTOR : -

A resistor is a two-terminal electrical or electronic component that opposes an electric

current by producing a voltage drop between its terminals in accordance with Ohm's

law: The electrical resistance is equal to the voltage drop across the resistor divided

by the current through the resistor while the temperature remains the same. Resistors

are used as part of electrical networks and electronic circuits.

4.CAPACITOR :-

A capacitor is an electrical/electronic device that can store energy in the electric field

between a pair of conductors (called "plates"). The process of storing energy in the

capacitor is known as "charging", and involves electric charges of equal magnitude,

but opposite polarity, building up on each plate.

5. CRYSTALOSCILLATOR:-

A miniature 4 MHz quartz crystal enclosed in a hermetically sealed HC-49/US

package, used as the resonator in a crystal oscillator.

A crystal oscillator is an electronic circuit that uses the mechanical resonance of a

vibrating crystal of piezoelectric material to create an electrical signal with a very

precise frequency.

6. VOLTAGE REGULATOR

A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator designed to automatically maintain a

constant voltage level.

It may use an electromechanical mechanism, or passive or active electronic

components. Depending on the design, it may be used to regulate one or more AC or

DC voltages.

7. Microcontroller(8051):-

The Intel MCS-51 (commonly termed 8051) is a Harvard architecture, complex

instruction set computing (CISC) instruction set, single chip microcontroller (µC)

series developed by Intel in 1980 for use in embedded systems.[1] Intel's original

versions were popular in the 1980s and early 1990s and enhanced binary

compatible derivatives remain popular today.

6. Measuring Instruments/ techniques - knowledge and use:-Page | 16

Page 17: Gujarat technological universit1

1. DMM: -

We use Digital Multi-Meter to measuring the output of home Appliances means the circuit is working or not.

We have to set middle wheel to 750 V A.C. supply for the safety of DMM, then there two pin touch to the input of wire witch we connect to home appliances after measuring. And also measuring a component of the circuit.

7. Simulation and Analysis (Software modeling)

Page | 17

Page 18: Gujarat technological universit1

Simulation of project:-

Page | 18

Page 19: Gujarat technological universit1

Working of the Project:-

This project uses DTMF technology to control home appliances.DTMF stands for Dual Tone Multi Frequency. This DTMF based system can control home appliances via mobile phone communication from anywhere around the world.

This facilitates the user to operate anything on his fingertips. It requires two cell phones to operate properly; one of them will always remain in

touch with the circuit and another to place a call on that phone.

In this circuit Relay-1 will work if we press “123”, “456” for Relay-2 and “789” for Relay-3.

Now pressing the digits in reverse order will switch off the corresponding relay i.e. “321”, “654” and”987” will switch off Relay-1,2,3 respectively.

In case we need to switch off all of them at same time then pressing “0” will accomplish the task.

Now comes the most interesting part; why interfacing L293D with such a circuit? Here’s your answer, 8051 chips, especially AT89S52’s are not capable of delivering that much current which is required by the relay module to work. Thus I got an idea of using L293D which will enhance the current value as well as the voltage part because my relays work on 12 v DC.

APPLICATIONS:

There are moments in our lives where we are in doubt, whether we have closed the lights/fans/appliances or not. This system will help you resolve your worry, simply give a call to the phone connected and press the corresponding digits.

It can also serve for the purpose of switching on A.C’s to cool down your room on a hot-sunny day, before you reach your house.

There is no end to the number of applications this system can perform, you just need to have an idea!

8.Conclusion/Future scope:-

Page | 19

Page 20: Gujarat technological universit1

Future scope:-

This project can be further developed by integrating it with the internet to monitor yourhome while sitting in a remote area. By doing this, one can keep an eye on his or her homethrough an internet connected to the user’s mobile phone or PC or laptop.

This will notonly improve the security of your home in this modern day world but will also assist inconservation of energy like if you left any home appliance switched on by mistake, thenyou can check the status of the appliance on the graphical interface made on your mobileand can switch it off using the internet connectivity.

Conclusion:-

The home automation system has been experimentally proven to work satisfactorily by connecting sample appliances to it and the appliances were successfully controlled from a wireless mobile device. The Bluetooth client was successfully tested on a multitude of different mobile phones from different manufacturers, thus proving its portability and wide compatibility.

This project will not only provide convenience to the common man but will be a boon for the elderly and disabled.
