Oxygen measurement in gas phaseis typically driven by two require-ments. One is to ensure safety ofthe process and protect its environ-ment and the other is to preventproducts and equipment from oxi-dation resulting in reduced yieldcaused by unwanted by-products.

Existing analytical systems mostlyneed intensive sampling and condi-tioning of the gas.

Bring the Sensor to the gas, not Vice Versa

Gas sampling and conditioningsystems are needed if a sensordoes not withstand the process orenvironmental conditions.

In typical installations, e.g. withparamagnetic sensors, additionalsampling and conditioning systemsare required but installation cost,maintenance effort and the risk offailures of one component increasessignificantly.

METTLER TOLEDO uses oxygenmeasurement system with a robustand easy-to-maintain design. Noconditioning is needed in mostcases and even if conditioning isrequired, it is significantly lesscomplex than existing installations.

Amperometric oxygen sensors from METTLER TOLEDO don’t need a gasconditioning system in a wide range of applications. The robustness andhigh accuracy in aggressive processes allows direct installation.

Amperometric oxygen measurementThe oxygen measurement system isseparated from the sample gas by oxy-gen permeable membrane. Most com-ponents with potential interferences cannot pass the membrane.At the cathode, oxygen is chemicallymeasured as a current to calculate theoxygen partial pressure.
