INTRODUCTION

Phytorid technology is a type of constructive wetland system, developed by National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), CSIR in 2005.Type of Decentralized waste water treatment approach. Can be used for treatment of Domestic, Agricultural, Slaughter house, Fish Pond water.Preferable for pre-treated sewage, when sufficient land area is available.Combines Physical, Biological and Chemical processes.

WORKING PROCESS OF PHYTORID TECHNOLOGY

ADVANTAGES OF PHYTORID BASED SEWAGE SYSTEMSCost-effective.Operation and maintenance expenses are negligible.Minimum electricity requirement, nearly fossil energy free.Smaller footprint (Retention time: Typically less than 24 hrs). Facilitates recycle and reuse of water. No foul odour and No Mosquito Nuisance.Tolerates fluctuations in operating conditions such as flow, temperature and pH.

CONCLUSIONFrom the above discussion, it is concluded that Phytorid technology is one of the efficient way of decentralized treatment of water, requiring negligible operational and maintenance cost, but more land area for higher volume of sewage. Hence, it can be adapted in local societies and institutions. Moreover, improvements should be further made to improve the quality and efficiency of the phytorid system. The effluent water can be used for irrigation, dilution, flush tanks etc.
