Electric motors are often deemed to be critical infrastructure, and continuity of production process depends on this infrastructure. That is why numerous preventive measures are developed in order to help us avoid unplanned and expensive repairs.

Mutual correlation of data captured with the use of several different measurement devices (such as thermal imaging devices, vibrometers or electrical quantities meters) requires large amount of work connected with transferring data to computer and processing of these data. There is a possibility to optimize the abovementioned processes with the use of state-of-the-art technologies

Thermal imaging and load measurment

An important parameter that has to be taken into account while performing infrared measurements is an electrical load of equipment under test. In case of electrical apparatus and equipment, electrical load should be at least 40% of nominal rating.

Overall vibration measurements

Vibration measurements for rotating machines is one of diagnostic tools that can indicate deterioration of machine condition from 1 to 9 months prior to the occurrence of breakdown.

The data registered by the vibrometer were then compared against the overall vibration levels stated in the ISO 10816-1, 10816-3, and 10816-7 standards, and the results are presented in Table 2.

Thermal imaging and load measurment

The comparison of the value registered by the vibrometer, thermal camera or clamp meter against the benchmark enabled appropriate machine status to be assigned in the app. Measurements conducted over a longer period allow automatic generation of vibration trends in the cloud.

The mobile app and the technology for transferring data from measurement devices to the cloud enabled providing support for the preventive maintenance system. Assigning the appropriate device status based on the analysis and correlation of numerous measurements of electric and non-electric values allowed accurate planning of the tasks to be performed during overhaul downtimes.
