FOCUS AREA TITLE DATES

2016 DHI UK & IRELAND SYMPOSIUM, MACDONALD ANSTY

HALL, WARWICKSHIRE, 21-22 JUNE 2016

The Symposium is a free-of-charge knowledge sharing event for water and environmental professionals comprising both conference-style presentations on Day 1 and training courses on Day 2. The conference is open to everyone and you certainly do not need any experience with MIKE software to come along and join in. The Symposium offers the chance to meet people in both formal sessions as well as over dinner and during breakout sessions. You will also be able to meet the local DHI support team and DHI staff from Head Office, as well as your contemporaries from consultancy, academia and research.

MODELLING LONG-TERM SHORELINE EVOLUTION IN COMPLEX COASTAL PROJECTS Using MIKE 21 FM Shoreline Morphology (SM)

This two-day gives you a good understanding of the capabilities of the new MIKE 21 FM Shoreline Morphology (MIKE 21 FM SM). The aim is to enable you to set up and use the shoreline model in complex coastal projects.

Introduction to MIKE 21 FM Shoreline Morphology (MIKE 21 FM SM) Introduction to Shoreline Morphology Mesh Generator tools

Using the Shoreline Morphology tools in practice

Hands-on exercises

BATHING WATER QUALITY AND EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS How to improve bathing water management with focus on human health

This two-day course gives you an overview of the most important parts of the European Bathing Water Directive as well as an introduction to real life cases of good management of bathing water and different early warning methods.

Bathing water quality

Dynamic early warning systems

Examples of implementation at Danish and Swedish beaches

EU directives and national legislation

MANAGEMENT, MONITORING AND MODELLING OF ESTUARIES Introduction to estuarine dynamics, data and survey methods

This one/two-day course introduces you to estuarine dynamics, wind generated waves, stratified flow, transport of fine cohesive sediments. Interaction between sediment transport, morphological evolution, flora, fauna and water quality discussed.

Estuarine physical processes and morphology

Understanding of numerical models Minimisation of sedimentation in harbour

basins Disposal of fine sediments Hydraulic impact of infrastructure projects

COASTAL FLOODING - ANALYSIS AND MANAGEMENT Preparing for flooding and the impact of climate change on your coasts

In this one/two-day course you learn how to develop coastal flood risk assessments & maps. Focus is on estimation of extreme marine events & the practical application of flood management tools. The effect of climate change on coastal floods is discussed.

Overview of tools for coastal floods analysis What to request and expect from a model Assessment of extreme marine events : How to set up a flood model Mapping flood risks, values and economic

costs Methods to evaluate the effectiveness of

proposed adaptation measures

MODELLING OF STORM WATER FOR GREEN CITIES Methods and structures

This one/two-day course gives you an introduction to different approaches to the modelling of various types of green infrastructure in MIKE URBAN and their effect on different types of storm events. Modelling of storm water quality is also included.

Modelling of green solutions Modelling the different elements of a green

infrastructure Developments in urban storm water

modelling with MIKE URBAN How to couple the green solutions with an

existing drainage network Storm water quality and the modelling

thereof Applying treatment water quality measures

to various types of green infrastructure

MIKE 21/3 SEDIMENT MODELLING Sediment transport using the 2D sand (ST) and 2/3D mud (MT) models from the FM suite

This one-day course aims to enable you to set up and run sediment modelling simulations using the MIKE 21 FM Sand Transport and Mud Transport models in a coupled setup with flow and wave models. When to apply a 3D approach is also discussed.

Fundamentals of fine sediment and sand transport modelling

Application of MIKE 21 ST FM and MIKE 21/3 MT FM

Setting up wave and flow conditions Specifying sand properties, particles and

sediments

MIKE HYDRO RIVER ECO LAB 1D water quality and ecological modelling

This two-day course teaches you the fundamentals of ecological modelling and gives you an introduction on how to develop an ecological model and set it up using MIKE HYDRO River ECO Lab. Focus is on 1D systems.

Fundamentals of ecological modelling Introduction to ECO Lab and dialogue

overview Guidelines for ecological model

development How to set up the MIKE HYDRO River ECO

Lab

MIKE 21 WAVE MODELLING Introduction to the Spectral Wave (SW) and Boussinesq Wave (BW) models

This two-day course helps you predict and analyse wave climates in offshore and coastal areas and wave conditions in ports and behind structures where accurate assessment of wave impact is of utmost importance.

Application of MIKE 21 SW and BW How to set up models based on flexible

mesh (unstructured grid) and on rectilinear grid

Decision of spectral formulation Creating porosity & sponge layer maps

COASTAL DEVELOPMENT Processes, regulations and management

This two-day course gives you an understanding of the physical and chemical processes related to dredging and reclamation, their potential environmental impacts and tools to help you sustainably manage these projects within their regulatory setting.

Dredging and reclamation process and techniques

Environmental impacts and mitigation Sediment properties and processes EIA and stakeholder management Optimisation of design and operations Monitoring and management

WATER RESOURCES INFORMATION MANAGEMENT Introduction to information management using MIKE INFO

This two-day, hands-on course gives you a sound knowledge of information management ‘Best Practices’ and how to configure systems to support your specific needs and the decision support processes.
