Project Description:• Access to the community of Holberg, BC was cut during a rain event in which 300mm

of rain fell in a 24 hour period and washed away a 2.0m CSP• BC MoTI quickly installed a temporary single lane bridge to re-open the road and

maintain essential services.

Issues:• Water infiltration through

the embankment was a concern

• Bedrock was relatively

close to the surface

• Implied subsurface erosion

was likely, due to piping (percolation of water along the bedrock surface).


Resolution:• Impervious cast-in-place concrete cut-off wall was anchored into the bedrock. • Cut-off wall ensured the water takes the path of least resistance – through the Multi-

Plate structure

PARKDALE CREEK – LANGFORD, BC

Project description:• Parkdale Creek is an environmentally sensitive fish-bearing stream that meanders

through the heart of the Westhills subdivision.

• In order to join the two halves of the neighborhood it required a structure that would span the creek in an aesthetic and environmentally friendly way.

Structure description:• Bridge-Plate® arch structure

• 12.0m span x 5.948m rise x 36.0m long


• Entire assembly only required eight days.

• Assembly crew preassembled complete rings of the arch in a staging area while the skew collar & footing designs were completed.

Project description:• This project incorporated a green wall system that used Mirafi 5XT uniaxial geogrid

reinforcement.
