The transmitter selects the modulation modes of subcarriers and determines the Bit Allocation Table (BAT), the receiver should be informed of the BAT.

A common way is transmitting the BAT via signaling, which reduces the effective data rate. Alternatively, the receiver can attempt to estimate the BAT using an ADAPTIVE algorithm in order to avoid this signaling overhead.

The Base station (BS) and the Mobile station (MS) transmit their data frame in downlink and uplink sequentially.

Each station estimates the channel transfer function using the

training sequence in each frame and determines the BAT of

the next transmission based on the estimated channel state

information (CSI). Intuitively, channel prediction can improve the modulation

classification performance by increasing the correlation
