ABOUT AAI• Airport authority of India provides air

traffic management services over entire Indian air space and adjoining oceanic areas

• VISION-To be world class organization providing leadership in air traffic services and airport management and making India a major hub in Asia Pacific region about 2016

• MISSION-To achieve highest standard of safety and quality in air traffic services and airport management.

Applications of RADAR:

Search RADAR scans a large area

Targeting RADAR scans a small area

Navigational RADAR used on commercial ships and aircrafts

Mapping RADAR remote sensing and geographic applications

Weather RADAR locate precipitation, its motion & future

RADAR is used for Air Traffic Control

Conclusion: Radar is a way to detect and study far off

objects by transmitting a radio pulse in the direction of the target and observing the reflection of the wave.

Its basically a radio echo.

ASMGCS• ASMGCS has emerged as the proven solution, with existing

system revealing significant improvements in safety, capacity and cost savings.

• Primarily surveillance data alone does not provide enough accuracy or information required by an A-SMGCS system

• Multistatic Dependent Surveillance (MDS) multilateration is a secondary surveillance system that provides accurate position reports for all Mode S, Mode A/C or ADS-B equipped aircraft and vehicle in all weather conditions.

Page 14: AAI (Airports Authority of India) PPT

Multistatic Dependent Surveillance (MDS) Multilateration System

MDS offers accurate surveillance and identification of all transponder equipped aircraft in the air as well as on an airport’s surface.

It provides highly reliable data for further processing at MSDP

MDS, a transponder based multilateration system, uses multiple receivers to capture aircraft transponder pulses and calculate position and identification.

The system is configured with multiple low cost, non-rotating sensors strategically placed in the surveillance area

REMOTE UNIT

Out of 23 remote units 9 Rus are configured as Receive/Transmit (R/T) and rest are configured as Receive only (RO).R/T can transmit in different mode & format as per the configuration and controlled by the Target Processor. Whisper/Shout technique is adopted for conventional Mode A/C.

Antenna is either Omni or Sector depending on the location of the RU.

Avg. Power 3.5 W (nominal)

RU communicate with Target Processor through Switch (CISCO 2960) and OFC media.

TRANSMITTERS• A set of equipment used to generate and transmit

electromagnetic waves carrying messages or signals.• AM transmitters are used in medium wave (MW) and short

wave (SW) frequency bands for AM broadcast.• Figure (a) is drawn for audio transmission

Page 18: AAI (Airports Authority of India) PPT

Propagation• Long-range communication can also be accomplished over

multiple-hop paths that include a reflection from the earth or layer

• Conditions vary with the time of day, latitude, season, and solar conditions.

• . Since the ionization varies with altitude, signals are not reflected, but refracted by the ionosphere
