Madison CoE and WMI are part of RM2N because:• WMI mission is to support multiple materials activities at UW and

beyond, including the Regional Materials and Materials Network

• WMI hosted a materials workshop in December 2013 that lead to the formation of the RM2N• Attendees

57 registered attendees from a range of UW system schools, (e.g., UW-Madison, UW-Stout, UW-Platteville, UW-Milwaukee), companies and institutions (Cameca, Fisher Barton, Forest Products Laboratory).

• Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC).

Unique Materials Capabilities: We can see Single Atoms!

High precision STEM measurement the off-lattice atom displacements (strains) of surface atoms in nanocatalysts in the picometer range!

ATOMS in 2-D!

MRSEC IRG1 – (Kuech, Babcock, Mawst) learning to push “extra” atoms into semiconductor materials from their natural ‘bulk’ states to realize unique and undiscovered functionality.
