Sports Overview

Lower Secondary Curriculum (Years 7, 8 and 9)

• Our curriculum map is based on the National Curriculum for England.

• It embeds the learning objectives and assessment standards required for a strong foundation for IGCSE.

• Our units of study are progressive across the year groups and promote fitness, skill development as well as knowledge of rules and strategies. Our aim is for students to gain an appreciation of a variety of sports while discovering some that they may practice their entire lives.

Lower Secondary Assessment

• Ongoing assessment: Participation, physical testing, rules testing and observational assessment

• End of unit assessment• Two progress reports• Mid-year report, End of Year report• Two parent-teacher interviews

IGCSE PE Syllabus

• 4 sports – 50%• 1 observation and analysis written project – 10%• 1 exam paper based on the theory covered in the 2 year course.

Topics include:• Factors affecting performance• Health, safety, and training• Reasons and opportunities for participation in physical activity• The theory exam is 40% of the final grade.

IGCSE Assessment

• The sports are assessed and videoed twice over the 2 year course and the best performance is included for assessment.

• Ongoing assessment in lessons and end of unit tests are used throughout the course

• Exam questions are used to ensure students are familiar with the style and standard of questions they will see in the final exams.

• Two progress reports• Mid-year report, End of Year report• Two parent-teacher interviews

PE Events

Our dynamic PE department encourages students to get involved in Athlet ics with a variety of events throughout the year.

• Sports Council for Student Sports Leaders• Founders Day (October)• Intramural Sports• Extracurricular Sports• Student Coaching Opportunities• Tournaments and trips• ACAMIS and ISAC competitions
