1. YASH RAJ FILMS. Yash Raj Films was started in 1973 by Yash
Chopra who previously worked in his brother's production company.
YRF was launched with the movie Daag: A Poem of Love and since then
has produced, directed and distributed many movies. The most recent
movie which has been released by YRF is called Gunday and they have
at least 7 which are to be released later in 2014. In 2004, the
Hollywood Reporter placed Yash Raj Films at number 27 in a survey
of the "Biggest Film Distribution Houses" in the world; it is also
India's biggest production company as of 2006. It not only
distributes it's own movies but also movies produced by other
companies, popular examples are Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dhoom etc. YRF
is also involved in various other projects including; YRF
Entertainment, Yash Raj Music, Yash Raj Studio - Mumbai, YRF Movie
Merchandise, Yomics World etc. They also have a production house
solely dedicated towards providing a platform to young talent as
well as innovative marketing called Y-Films. They also have their
own post-production facilities which make it one of the most
coveted creative houses in India. With its ever-growing film
catalogue, the studio was confronted with the challenge of
increasing archival of films, which were being stored on a variety
of devices, including servers, tape drives, and HDDs. The studio
was looking for a solution that ensured robust archival of films
and ensured data protection, as loss of any film footage meant
enormous cost to the company and detrimental impact on distributors
and audience. Today, the studios films are archived at single
location and it has the flexibility to access and use its archived
catalogue of films for a range of media projects across platforms.
Now with the release of Dhoom 3, YRF have taken a stance to combat
piracy with the decision of not having any physical reels of the
movie. Exhibitors which wanted to show the movie had to make the
necessary technology shift. Dhoom 3 released on the digital and UFO
digital cinemas which helped prevent piracy to a very large extent.
Even if one managed to cheat, the prints are watermarked and
fingerprinted. Making it easier to trace. YRF is now also in a
partnership with IMAX corp making Dhoom 3 the first Bollywood movie
to be screened on IMAX. According to the companies multi-picture
agreement YRF has two more movies which are to be released in IMAX
including Paani. Fatima Masud.
