Year 5 Banding Test Year 5 Banding Test Briefing to FamiliesBriefing to Families

Thursday 16th April 2015

Greenwich is a ‘Comprehensive’ borough which means all schools teach children from the full range of abilities.

To ensure that all secondary schools take children from all ability levels, children take a Reading and Maths test in the summer term of Y5.

The test that Y5 take in the summer term is the first stage of the children’s transfer to secondary school.

From the results of the test, children are put into a ‘BAND’.

This can be confusing to parents as it is a very different system from the National Curriculum Levels

It is also separate from the 11+ or Bexley tests as it is NOT an entrance test
