1. Introduction
In today’s knowledge based global economy, online communication is increasingly valued by
organizations as a way to efficiently respond to dynamic competitive markets (Fujimoto, Bahfen,
Fermelis, & Härtel, 2007). In this context of information sharing and having continues platform to
communicate the changes and development in any industry is a must for the increase in productivity.
AHRI leads the direction and fosters the growth of the HR profession through actively setting standards
and building the capability of the profession. Through its international affiliations and close association
with industry and academia, AHRI ensures that its members are given access to a soundly-based
professional recognition framework in the form of professional development programs, events, research
and publications. The AHRI vision ‘to shape the future of the profession’ recognizes the responsiveness
of AHRI to its members by informing, leading and strengthening the HR profession (“HRM Monthly
AHRI,” 2012)
2. Education & Training
The website provides training and development in Human Resource related fields almost like an
institution. The courses provided are complete varying to match various groups of people, such as
working adults to full time students. The courses are from short term courses, e-learning and also
customized learning to serve the students’ needs individually.
3. Services and tools
The website also provides a long list of directory and contact lists under the service and tools section.
This section holds records of the latest news in the industry, online surveys done regarding HR issues in
the region and also a document library.
Most of the materials in this section is only accesible with membership, limited access without
membership on this site.
4. Centre of excellence
Under the records of center of excellence, AHRI provides an easy access to research, publications,
AHRI networks and global networks as well. All this records are kept exclusively for the readings and
reference of the members of the site. It is comprehensive and detailed records.
5. Events
Events section of this site is open to all and is updated with events, seminars and talks regarding Human
Resource in the region. HRIZON 2013 (AHRI national convention and exhibition) being the biggest
event organized by the institute, it helps members to meet and exchange ideas on the developments in
the HR arena as well as listen to paper presentations and seminars prepared by the organizers during the
event.
6. Membership
Memberships for AHRI are provided in different packages according to the target groups. Free
memberships are given for students looking to be a member with AHRI, which is different comparing
this site to the other Human Resource sites. The membership is anyhow has limited access to some links,
these links are useful and sufficient for student needs. Links provided for student members are: HR
Careers, HR Connect, HRgovlist and e-learning.
Affiliate membership is open to all, come from a range of professional backgrounds with diverse
responsibilities, including line managers, small business operators, professional service providers and
business owners, represent all industry groups, and have a shared interest in management and
development of people
Graduate membership is given for those interested to be members with a degree. This membership is
quite interesting as it provides Access to the AHRI mentoring program
Member rates to attend events, including AHRI’s young networking forums that are aimed at young HR
professionals.
Other than the above the more expensive and complete membership is provided in three other packages.
Namely MHRI – Members, CAHRI – Certified members, and FAHRI – Fellow
7. Conclusion
As a conclusion, this site has all the needed criteria’s of a Human Resource website rite from training to
career seeking and also continues assistance in the form of information sharing among the Human
Resource practitioners. Anyhow as an improvement this site could incorporate a way to activate the real
time discussions and forums through the site; this would allow information sharing in a more efficient
and quick. This would also encourage “virtual meetings” among the professionals as well as between
students and the practitioners allowing better and faster way of introducing each other.
