A Bit of History

• In 1986, the Ontario Government created an initiative to provide residents of Northern Ontario improved access to college, university and high school courses

• Known as Contact North, it opened a variety of centres where residents could take literacy, high school, or college or university courses directly in their local community.

• Today Contact North has 90 centres serves over 5,000 students annually in Northern Ontario and delivers close to 14,000 course registrations for its education and training partners

Rick Sleaver
High school was big back in the 80's for CN | CN.
Rick Sleaver
The course registration piece is important for this audience as they will know what it means.

• Based on the success of Contact North, the Ontario Government funded the expansion of this service to residents of Eastern, Central and Western Ontario called elearnnetwork.ca

• As a publicly funded organization, we opened in 2007 and now have 18 Centres across Ontario.

What Do We Do…?

Our MandateTo increase access to education and training opportunities in small and rural communities and to support student recruitment, retention and success.

In Other Words…We have 18 training centres in small and rural communities across Ontario where students and local residents can pursue any of the online courses or programs available from Ontario’s colleges and universities.

Rick Sleaver
Comes directly from the Action Plan for consistency purposes.
Rick Sleaver
I found this reference to 'online training centres' confusing as it lead me to first think it was all online and there was no local centre.
