❧Biography

William Shakespeare was born on 26 April 1564 in Stratford-Upon- Avon. He was the third of eight brothers.

When he was 18 years old, he married Ann Hathaway. The last years of the 1580s are known as the lost years of the

playwright, we don’t where he was, or why he decided to move from Stratford to London.

According to a legend, he was caught hunting deer in the park of Sir Thomas Lucy, the local judge and forced to go out. According to another hypothesis, he could have joined the theatre company Lord Chamberlain’s Men passing through Stratford.

Shakespeare in LondonShakespeare chose London, because it was the biggest city in England.

He wrote comedies, stories with a happy ending. These plays often have people falling in love, wearing disguises and generally getting mixed up.

He wrote tragedies, stories with sad endings.Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, because the young lovers, Romeo and Juliet both die.

Shakespeare´s history plays are about real people,such us Julius Caesar, the Roman general, or the English and Kings Henry V and Richard III. Globe Theatreo It was a theatre in London. o It was built in 1599 by William´s

playing company. Lord Chamberlain was thhe owner of the Globe Theatre.

Some Important Facts about William Shakespeare.

Six examples of William’s signature are known and they are all different.

Pens were invented about the time Shakespeare was born.

His first play was Henry VI, the last was Henry VII.

At the Globe people could buy apples to munch while they watched the play.

Female couldn’t act, only men.

In winter rich people watched plays indoors by candlelight.

❧Romeo and Juliet was written in the 16th century, around 1591. It was published in 1597.

❧• The Capulets and the Montagues were enemies, but Romeo ,

a Montague loved Juliet , a Capulet.

• Juliet had to marry Paris , but she didn’t ‘t love him.

• One day Romeo and Juiet got married in secret . The days passed and Romeo and Juliet wanted to stay together . They made a plan.Juliet had to drink a potion to sleep 48 hour.

• Romeo didn´t know the plan. He thought that Juliet died and he killed himself.

• Juliet got up . She saw Romeo and killed herself too. Their families saw it and they got peace.

❧❧Verona is a city in Italy where the story of Romeo and Juliet takes place. The two more important places in Verona in relation to Romeo and Juliet are :

❧The house of the Capulets ; the house has a balcony, called “Juliet’s balcony”

tomb of Juliet.
