Why is Content Important?
Let us start by saying this – Marketing is impossible without content. Content can be in
any form; a poster of your favorite movie release, instructions on how to make a 2
minute noodles behind a Maggi pack or even a video telling you how to wear your
clothes. Everything you see around is content in some way.
Going with the cliché – Content is the King. Here, when we talk about content we refer
to web content. Companies like GE, P&G, Microsoft, Intel, SAP, Maersk and many of
Fortune 500 companies are leveraging the power of content and digital marketing. Now,
the big question is why is it so important? Why are 90% of Fortune 500 companies
banking on content marketing?
Let’s have a look at one of the world’s largest shipping company; Maersk leveraged
content marketing integrating it to social media with an appropriate planning, strategy
and implementation. They saw a very go od rise in their revenue and brand value. Their
social media strength grew to 1.5 million users on Facebook (of which 15% are acquired
customers) and 12, 000 followers on Twitter. Maersk also managed to grab up to 150
unique leads from a Facebook campaign. (Read the whole case study)
Content marketing is not to sell a product/service to a customer; it’s giving them a
strong reason to buy that product/ service from you. Experience and experiments have
shown that content marketing will:
1. Increase quality and relevant traffic to your website.
2. Tells a better story about your brand/ product or service.
3. Increases your visibility on the web.
4. Plays a very vital role in bringing quality and potential leads to your business.
5. Leaves a long lasting impression by sharing knowledge about your
company/product or service.
Here are some facts and statistics by Curata which justify the above.
