This white revolution or operation flood relates tothe rapid development in milk production thattook place in India after mid 1960s. This name is avariation of the name "Green Revolution" usedearlier to describe rapid development inagricultural production in India.A name closely associated with White Revolution isthat of Dr. Verghese Kurien. This is because theorigins of White Revolution can be traced to theefforts of Dr. Kurien at Kaira District Co-operativeMilk Producers Union Situated at Anand in GujaratState. This organization is better known by thebrand name of its product - Amul. 4. Dr. Verghese Kurien is theman behind the success ofAmul. He is called thefather of the whiterevolution in India. He isalso known as the Milkmanof India. Kurien, set up theAnand modelof cooperative dairydevelopment, engineeredthe White Revolution inIndia, and made India thelargest milk producer in theworld. 5. Operation Flood Symbol for National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Designer: Vikas Satwalekar in 1970-71. The drop logo symbolizes the Operation Flood movement started by Verghese Kurien for National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The White Revolution changed the face of dairy functioning in India, giving livelihood to thousands ofmilkmen in Anand. The timeless simplicity of the dropsignifies the value of milk, its sustenance by and for people of India, making India the largest producer of milk in theworld. 6. ITS IMPACTThis is a revolution like no other in the world. Operation Flood or TheWhite Revolution as it is known in India has over the past five decadesproduced a constantly increasing sustainable flood of milk in India. Itwas of high quality and available in most parts of both urban and ruralIndia. It helped transform the lives of more than 13.4 million farmersand increasing, most of them poor. Of them, 3.7 million were women. Ithelped women empower themselves and their families. Today, the DairyCooperative Network includes 177 milk unions. It operates in over 346districts covering around 1, 28,799 village level societies. Today, India isthe worlds leading dairying nation. Its helps:- Increasing milk production ("a flood of milk") Augment rural incomes Fair prices for consumers Employment of people Increase of economy in the country. 7. Video of whiterevolution 8. From the above figure we can conclude thatmilk production is increasing rapidly year by year but it is more fast consumed by growing and vast population . 9. The oilseeds production scenario in India haswitnessed a dramatic turn. The country achieveda status of self sufficient and net exporter duringearly nineties, rising from the net importer state, with a mere annual production of nearly 11 million tons from the annual oilseed crops, until the year 1986,87. In a span of just a decade,an all time record oilseeds production of 25 million tons from annual oilseed crops was attained during 1996,97. This transformation hasbeen termed as "The Yellow Revolution" and could be primarily attributed to the institutionalsupport, particularly the set up of the Technology Mission on Oilseeds in 1986. 10. Area, production and productivity of annual oilseedcrops in India Source: Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. 11. Significant outcome of this Mission and otherrelated developments included the following;- i) the improved oilseeds productiontechnology, ii) the expansion in cultivated area, and iii) the price support policy. Now, India is among the largest oil economiesin the region/world. The country also occupies a distinct position interms of diversity in annual oilseed crops. 12. The demand of oilseeds are continuously increasing due to increasing ofpopulation very rapidly. Oilseeds are consume very fast by such a vastpopulationSo, As major crops, oilseeds meet the countrys needs for edible oils. Asecond yellow revolution is crying need of the hour. Also, a technicalbreakthrough in dry land farming is needed to maximize yield, productivity and farm income. Achieving the aim of making the countryself-sufficient in oilseeds would have a great impact on agriculture andthe economy and would help reduce dependence on foreign markets.
