• It is trying to secure a better
future for farmers and workers
of developing countries.
• Fair trade is also a social movement
• Fair trade is an alternative approach
to conventional trade based on a
partnership between producers and
consumers
• Fair trade is trying to fight poverty
and the injustices of conventional
trade.
What are the aims of fair trade?
• Fair trade supports the small producers of the developing world.
Small producers can improve their lives and plan for their future
• Fair trade fights against poverty
• Fair trade supports sustainability and the protection of the environment
• Fair trade promotes informed
consumer choices Consumers choose the fair trade products and help to create a fairer economic system and fairer trading rules.
Fair trade and child labour
Hundrends of children work in cocoa Plantations in West Africa under terrible
conditions. They don’t go to school, they are undernourished, abused, tortured.
Many of them were taken away from their families by force and they are treated
as real slaves by the plantation owners. They cannot return to their families THEY HAVE NEVER TASTED CHOCOLATE IN THEIR LIVES.
