Depleted Ground Water reserves. Drying up Yamuna. Dying surface water bodies. Long distance transfer of water from Ganga and Bhakra.

47 % water is UFW. Helps in hiding infrastructural inefficiency. 30 % water lost in evaporation. No accounting of water use at different stages. No groundwater monitoring.

Poor end up paying a ‘poverty premium’. Due to irregular and insufficient supply, there are high coping costs. Only 75% households in Delhi have access to safe drinking water.04/10/23 3

Dedicated Social Development Unit, written policy of connecting the urban poor with well specified targets.

Simplifying the cost and procedure of connection and consumption.

NGOs for sensitizing people about piped water supply, and to educate field staff.

Extending the existing supply networks to these areas.

Use NGOs to ensure continuing compliance and monitoring. This will involve local elected representatives as well.
