We looked at your picture presentation and talked about the experiment.

The children predicted what would happen when we tried out the experiment.

Here are some of their comments:

“It will fall out.” Nathan

“We will need sticky tape.” Connor

“The water will come out.” Jessica

None of the children thought the water would remain in the glass.

We were surprised to find out the water did not fall out of the glass.

Sometimes the water did fall out, but that was fun too!

The children really enjoyed taking part in the experiment and focused their attention well to carry out the instructions.

Many children returned several times to repeat the experiment and became more confident each time.

Most children were more interested in taking part in the activity rather than listening to the explanation of why the water stayed in the glass.

This is not unreasonable for children of this age. I would expect that as they enjoy more science experiences they will build on the enjoyment of this one and perhaps reflect then on this early hands on experience.

One child was really interested to revisit your presentation and was keen to hear the explanation.
