On August 28th 1923 the Washington march took place. The purpose was to find Black Americans Jobs and Freedom. Slavery was a prevalent issue in that time. Negro’s were treated not as humans but as slaves, only there to harvest the white man’s cotton. The other main problem was mistreatment of slaves, they were beaten and whipped. Small girls stood around smiling while the Negroes were hung for no reason but purely entertainment.

At the rally supporters were calm and determined to get their point across. They protested for jobs and freedom. Reminded people what the declaration of independence said.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

At the end there were many speeches to put across this idea. All held at the Lincoln Memorial (‘Forest Gump’).

But the most famous of them all was by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “I have a dream”. Named as so because this part of the speech was unplanned, but more requested by Mahalia Jackson (gospel singer/protestor)

He was a clergyman and activist prevalent mainly in the 1960’s. He became famous for his “I have a dream” speech, talking about the boundaries that African Americans/Negroes had that whites did not have. Racial Segregation was his main point. At the Lincoln memorial Dr. King spoke about how equal we were and that the declaration of independence stated this. He initialized the first steps towards egalitarianism.

Martin Luther King Jr. Was the key person to effect racism and Racial segregation.

Barack Obama was born on August 4th 1961.He was born to a white American mother,, and a black Kenyan father. His father left for Harvard, she and Barack stayed behind, and later his father returned to Kenya and worked as a government economist. Barack's mother remarried and they moved to Jakarta when he was six. Later he returned to Hawaii because of the poverty and was brought up his grandparents. He only met his father once when he was 10 because of his work but often wrote to him.

He attended Hawaii's top prep academy. Obama attended to Columbia University, but found New York's racial tension inescapable. He then attended Harvard Law School, and in 1990 became the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review. Eventually he ran as a Democrat for the state senate seat successfully from his district.

In 2004 Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate as a Democrat, representing Illinois, and gained national attention by giving a inspiring speech at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. In 2008 he ran for president as a democrat became the first African-American, 44th president of the Unites States.

At the time of the novel, segregation was a prevalent issue. African-Americans were considered to be in a lower social class than the white. Martin Luther King was protesting against the mistreatment of the African-American. He had a dream that one day all of society would accept them equal and that in the days to come there would be a president of mixed race. Barack Obama is now the 44th president of United States and that shows Martin Luther King’s dream has finally come true. In the novel the characters were humiliated by the white people just because of the different race but it has now changed. Both Martin Luther King and Barack Obama have given hope to those who were once treated differently. When the Washington rally at the Lincoln memorial those thoughts of egalitarianism were emphasised.

The movie as a whole was related to the novel ‘roll of thunder hear my cry’In one of the scene it shows that ‘attitude reflects leadership’, by this phrase is means that if you have bad leadership, then that is the type of attitude the team will have. This relates to the novel because in general and for example, the incident with Lillian Jean at Strawberry, the leader which in this case would be the white people and her father had bad leadership (racism) therefore the attitude of Lillian towards Cassie was very dreadful as well.In the scene where Coach Boone addressed his Speech, it connects novel because he was saying how many innocent lives were lost in a conflict in which brothers were fighting, the coach was trying to have them not have the same. For example when the white men burnt the Berry’s.

Throughout Anne Frank’s diary she has expressed the unfairness her people were facing, as Adolf Hitler was filtering out all the Jews, known a genocide..

Anne Frank was a small girl in the midst of a religious and racial filtration process this was also known as the Holocaust. As prisoners entered the doors of Auschwitz they saw the words “Arbeit Macht Frei" (work will give you freedom). But the consequences show this was a false statement.

On her 13th Birthday Anne received her first diary which initially was a private book of her emotions towards certain events. But in the newspaper she saw an advertisement that suggested that diaries of people would be collected. That was when she decided to write a well informed account of her life.

She, like Cassie did not understand why the world has to be cruel. They were defiant but had no choice but to conform to the situation.

A few years after hiding Anne and her fellow group was captured and most were sent to Auschwitz. As was Anne. At the concentration camp 1.6 million people were murdered (gassed and many starved and over worked to death).
