Learning Objectives

• To further develop our use of descriptive vocabulary to keep the

reader interested;

• Use descriptive language to describe how different sweets taste;

• Design a new sweet you would sell in the sweet shop;

The Bicycle and The Sweet Shop

Task 1

• Read the description of the sweet shop in The Bicycle and The Sweet Shop and highlight all of the descriptions used to describe the sweets.

Adjectives

Task 2Take two different sweets and write a descriptive sentence about how they

taste.

My example: Chocolate éclair: When you open the wrapper, the smell is inviting. It is hard when you pop it in your mouth, but it soon becomes soft and chewy. It has a slight vanilla flavour and a creamy texture. What surprises you is the chocolate centre which melts in your mouth! Delicious!!!

• Using what you’ve discovered today, design a new sweet you would sell in the sweet shop

• Think about: • look, taste, smell, texture• Hard, soft, chewy, soft centre,

flavoured centre• Be as descriptive as you can – really use your imagination!• Draw your design, name your sweet and write a detailed description in your exercise books.
