VOCABULARY FOR NATURAL DISASTERS

Debris: the remains of anything broken down or destroyed; ruins:

E.g: The debris of buildings after an air raid.

Drought: a period of dry weather, especially a long one that is injurious to crops:

E.g: The drought in Egipt causes the inhabitants a will of fertilised ground.

Hurricane: a storm of the most intense severity.

E.g: The hurricane in Sidle left the whole city in ruins.

Blizzard: a heavy & prolonged snowstorm covering a wide area, full of snow, strong winds, and intense cold.

E.g: Yesterday’s blizzard left the city white.

Tornado: a violently destructive windstorm occurring over land, and characterized by a long cloud extended towards the ground.

E.g: Last week, the tornado decimated the whole state.

Avalanche: a large mass of snow or ice, detached from a mountain slope and falling suddenly downward.

E.g: In Aspen happen a lot of avalanches

Lighting: a brilliant electric spark discharge occurring within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground.

E.g: Yesterday a lightning got burned a tree

Landslide/Mudslide: the downward falling or sliding of a mass of soil, earth, detritus, or rock from a steep slope.

E.g: That piece of earth can cause a mudslide!

Earthquake: a series of vibrations induced in earth by an abrupt rupture and rebound of rocks

E.g: An earthquake will cause the agitation of Earth

Volcanic eruption:

E.g: The volcanic eruption in Chile reached Córdoba.

Flood: a great flowing or overflowing of water over land.

E.g: After the raining of 2 weeks, the river caused a flood.

Tsunami: an unusually large sea wave produced by a seaquake or undersea volcanic eruption.

E.g: The tsunami flooded Chile

VOCABULARY FOR ACCIDENTS

Collision: A coming violently into contact; crash:

E.g: The collision of two cars.

Mid-air collision: A collision in the middle of the air:

E.g: The mid-air collision caused 3.000 casualties

Speeding: exceeding the speed limit:

E.g: As the car sped, he was nearer his destination.

Witness: To see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception:E.g: My friend witnessed my accident yesterday.

Fatalities: a disaster resulting in death:

E.g: The destruction of the subway caused 10.000 fatalities.

Multiple pile-up: A chain of various accidents:

E.g: The multiple pile-up stopped all the freeway.

Derailment: To run off the rails of a track:

E.g: When the train derailed, everyone there got scared.

VOCABULARY FOR CRIMES

Gun: A weapon consisting of a metal tube from which projectiles are shot:

E.g: The thief used a gun to kill his parents.

Child Abuse: To treat a child in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way.

Ambulance: A specially equipped motor vehicle, airplane, ship, etc., for carrying sick or injured people, usually to a hospital:

E.g: I had to call for an ambulance when my brother faint.

Forgery: To falsely make or alter a writing by which the legal rights or obligations of another person are apparently affected:

E.g: Two people made forgery to win the money on the family.

Mugging: an assault or threat of violence upon a person, especially with intent to rob.

E.g: Walking back home 3 people mugged me for my purse.

Homicide: The act of a person who kills another; murderer:

E.g: My neighbour suffered homicide last night.

Kidnapped: to steal, carry off, or abduct by force or fraud, a person, especially for use as a hostage:

E.g: Somebody had kidnapped my daughter yesterday.
