The first shot, showing an establishing shot tells us about the setting of the film. This shot is an iconography of London. Also shows the time phrase – horse as a transportation and not a concrete road.

First Version

Shots of body and muscles indicates the iconography of science and right away telling the audience the genre of the film which obviously could be a sci-fi. Also signifies that it is an experimentation of

something that is related to human.

The first male character to appear in the trailer signifies that he is the main character which also apply the codes and conventions of trailer. This is because Daniel Radcliffe is a famous actor which could attract the audience that has been following all of his films and tv series.

The flash could indicate that the experiment is not going to be well, thus create a dull and horrific atmosphere bringing the sense of horror genre. This supported by the establishing shot of a eerie night time.

This shot brings the intextuality from the film called ‘Halloween’- iconic fiction character in horror genre.

This shot anchored by Radcliffe’s voice, introducing the character saying that ‘my friend, Victor Frankenstein….’ imply that this guy is one of the main characters and

This applies the codes and conventions of trailer. A production from the famous conglomerate, which helps to attract wider audience as well as inform the audience which company produces this film. This logo is a different version of 20th Century Fox in order to demonstrate the logo that suits the genre of the film. The low key & artificial lighting of logo, predominant of shadow signifies the aura of enigma.

Logo with grave or stone appearance connotes the idea of rise from the dead-frank. ➢ Indication of who Frankenstein is bringing the eeriness atmosphere.

Low angle shot but the face expression subverts the meaning of low angle shot. The character looks powerless.

Narrative cue – creating something that shouldn’t exist. By looking at the atmosphere of the lab they are doing something against the regulation which could bring danger to society.

Start from that, the editing and the sound getting more intense.

SOUND: • Voice over of Irgo and Frankenstein – the main characters for the film which suppose to have more screening time in the trailer.

• Crescendo – to drag the audience attention by showing the intense trailer especially in the middle of trailer – the climax.

• Diegetic sound of a baby – purity and innocence. • Background music by The Doors titled ‘Break on Through’ which helps to give more information that could be related to the film.

EDITING: • Mostly use fading in and out as a transition to create mysterious atmosphere. • Rapid succession of shots – apply the codes and conventions of trailer.

Second Version• The second version of the Victor Frankenstein’s trailer has a sense of

humour yet more intense. More information about the trailer revealed.

More cheerful and humour side from Frankenstein.

More evidence of the experiment that Frankenstein is working on, is illegal and against the regulations. ➢ Underground room – Frankenstein is walking down the room – it signifies that he is doing something secretly create a mysterious atmosphere. Underground room usually full of secrets.

➢ Right after the shot that Frankenstein going to the room, a shot of detective coming to Irgo’s place, being told that there is a missing body.

More appearance of the monster making the trailer more spine-chilling and intense.
