The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to help young persons make ethical and moral decisions over their lifetime through a strict adherence to the Scout Oath and Law.
What is Journey to Excellence
• Journey to Excellence is the basic way we measure and recognize success in the Boy Scouts of America
• Three levels of performance• Use actual numbers from the previous year
to guide your performance improvement goal planning.
• The crew youth leaders should take the lead in making this assessment..

Council Standards of Venturing Excellence
Represents the Quality standards required of a Council Venturing Program
Requires a Council VOA• Council Venturing President & VOA Advisor• Council Venturing VPs & Advisors• All Crew Presidents and their Advisor

Journey to Excellence Award LevelsScouting.org/JTE
• Bronze level – 700 points in at least 8 objectives
• Silver Level– 1,000 points in at least 8 objectives
• Gold Level– 1,600 points in at least 8 objectives
• 2,600 maximum points available in 2014• Crews with a charter renewal date in any
month from October 2014 to September 2015

1 of 10: Activities
The crew has regular activities throughout the year reflecting the interests of the youth members.
Bronze Have carried out at least 4 activities.

2 of 10: Building Venturing
Have an increase in membership or be larger than the average size crew.
Must have a membership growth plan that includes a recruitment night …
Bronze … and either a net gain of 1 member over last year or at least 7 members.

Gold … and either increase youth members by 10% or have at least 15 members with an increase over last year.

Improve retention rate.
Bronze Retain and re-register 45% of eligible members or have a 2 percentage point increase.

4 of 10: Youth Leadership
The crew has elected youth leaders who are leading the crew activities.
Bronze Have an elected president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, and they are leading the activities of the crew.

Have a trained and engaged crew committee.

“A major annual activity, trip or project of a Venturing Crew requiring long range planning and extensive preparation. Generally this is the highlight of the Crew’s program year.”

The crew has a budget and follows BSA policies relating to fundraising and fiscal management.

Complete charter registration, obtain all signatures and submit the paperwork prior to expiration of charter.
