* the wordpress media library can – and will – become a very large database of images, audio files, pdfs, and more

* as our sites fill out and more departments add to the media library, it will become more crucial to keep it well organized

Page 3: Using the Wordpress Media Library

* wordpress has a wonderful built in search functionality to make finding content in the media library very simple.

* the key is to properly name content and tag it NOW to make it easier to find LATER

to find LATER

Page 5: Using the Wordpress Media Library

* if we do the work now, we can easily find our content years from now

* titles, descriptions, and filenames are all searchable keywords

*pro tip : search before upload

For non-timely news type images (ie headshots), search first to see if there’s already one there to avoid duplicates

Page 6: Using the Wordpress Media Library

* Name the file appropriately before uploading

* Do not upload as “IMG_018” etc.

* Add titles and descriptions that are keywords about what the photo is, or who is in it

* If you were looking for this photo, what would you search for?

Page 9: Using the Wordpress Media Library

• upload a decent sized photo, resize it in wordpress• not GINORMOUS, but around 1280x720 @ 72dpi is good• scale it down when you add it to a page or post

• ALWAYS search the database before adding a generic photo, or headshot

• try to keep duplicates out• an uploaded photo can be added to unlimited

posts/pages• resizing in wordpress is only attached to that

post/page• original uploaded photo is available for other uses

on site• you might even find a photo you like better in the media

* username is [email protected]

Page 13: Using the Wordpress Media Library

* once logged in, the dashboard will show you a big UPLOAD button

* powerpoint presentations & pdfs only, please

Page 14: Using the Wordpress Media Library

* change the name of the file if you wish – use something descriptive

* add tags – keywords for people searching

* category should be “education”
