Introduction

Libraries have been integrating new formats into their collection

management strategies.

It including microfilm in the 1930s, audio-visual materials in the post-

world war II era, and CD-ROMs in the 1980s.

During the last decade, electronic journals, electronic books, the World

Wide Web, and the Full Text Databases have been emerged.

The word ‘electronic’ has entirely changed the features of libraries largely

engineering libraries.

It can allow remote access, Access at any time, and allow simultaneous

access by multiple users and can permit linking between one part of a

publication and another or indeed, between different publications.

About the College

Objectives

• To find out the extent of use of e-resources

• To study the purposes.

• To find out the problems faced while accessing and using e-resources;

• To find out the major e - resources accessed by the students

• To determine the level of satisfaction.

• Suggest measures for the improvement in existing library e-resources in Engineering colleges.

Majority of the students (85 %) are having excellent in Computerknowledge.

All the students are aware about e-journals, online database, e-mail and OPAC. 90 % - e-books and 86 % - e-encyclopedias.

Accessing e-resources :63 % - daily, 24 % - weekly twice.

Major Findings

Usage of Source : IEEE – 80 %, Springer Link -76 %, ScienceDirect – 74 %.

Advantage : 93.3%-easy accessibility, 85% - downloadingfacility, 80%-availability of much before print.

Satisfaction : 59 % Fully satisfied.

Lack : 42 % - less no. of computers, 26 % -slow speed ofaccess.

Conclusion• Today’s college student will be well prepared to work in a wired and

wireless world.

• Virtually all of them will have experience with email and the Web, andmost will be familiar with a wide variety of databases and softwarepackages.

• It may increase the students to utilize the library as much moreeffectively.
