Lesson 1.07: Functions

1.07 SI 2s

Do you have your

math notebook,

calculator, and

something to write

with?

“With flexibility comes responsibility.”

MISSION: The mission of the Georgia Cyber Academy is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience for all students by incorporating school and community/family partnerships coupled with a rigorous curriculum within a data-driven and student-

centered instructional model. Student success will be measured by valid and reliable assessment data, parent and student satisfaction, and

continued institutional growth within the academic community.

VISION: GCA students will emerge as confident leaders in the 21st century global community through a holistic approach of rigorous academic

standards, a commitment to individualized learning paths, and attention to the growth of each student as a civic minded contributor both within their

local communities and beyond.

Relate the domain of a function to its graph and, where applicable, to the quantitative relationship it describes, For example, if the function h(n) gives the number of person-hours it takes to assemble n engines in a factory, then the positive integers would be an appropriate domain for the function.

Page 6: Unit C 1.06 and 1.07 Function Equations

Review1. Write the equation to this

line in function notation.

2. What is the domain of this function? How could we

write this?

Interval Notation

In “Interval Notation” you just write the beginning and ending numbers of the interval, and use:

[ ] a square bracket if you want to include the value, or

( ) a round bracket if you do NOT want to include the value

Old way:

0<x≤20

New way:

Domain and Interval Notation

Rewrite these domains in interval notation:

1.-2<x<4 2. -∞< x≤ 6

Domain and Interval Notation. Now let’s look at a graph. What is the domain? Write the domain in interval notation.

Does it extend forever and ever in both directions? What will my two end numbers be?

Page 11: Unit C 1.06 and 1.07 Function Equations

We ♥ MATH! So what is the DOMAIN on the

function in the interval between the 2 ♥’s.

Think about what the domain or

input, or x-values represent. What

type of constraint must we have?
