Introduction

This report will talk about different types of researches for example primary and secondary research.

Research methods

A research method is collecting data, there are two different types of data there is primary and secondary. Primary research methods contain things like survey, focus groups, testing, interviews and questionnaires. The secondary research methods contain things such as journals, library, newspapers and the internet. Primary research means collecting the data yourself but secondary research means going out and investigating the information individual.

Primary research

Primary research means collecting information by yourself. For example

Primary Research

Name of research method Explanation

Survey

It is the method of collecting information by sending emails about questionnaires it avoids people from traveling to different countries. There are two different types of surveys. one is digital meaning that people send out emails, and the other one is physical were people go out and ask different people in the street, the advantage of a digital is that you save paper and you can get responses quickly. The advantage of a physical survey is that it will get to you even if you don’t have a computer. The disadvantage is that maybe the location might be wrong or you have moved house and they might not have the correct address. The time you would use a survey is when you are researching and drawing a graph of how many people are doing something another example is when parents are going to sign a student in the have to fill out a survey.

Questionnaires

A questionnaire is a written or printed question with a choice of answers. The advantages of a questionnaire is that you can collect information quickly, it can also be collected by many participants in a large number of peoples but the disadvantages of a questionnaire is that it can take long to response. You cannot tell if the person speaking is being truthful, people might have reading difficulties meaning that he might not understand what it is trying to say. You would use a questionnaire is when you want to get information about something for example exams.

Interviews

A interview is meeting someone face to face the advantages of that is that the message would be clear to you and you knowing what he’s saying meaning it help you collect more qualitative information and the disadvantage is time consuming because it takes up a lot of time and also you have to record all the interview because you’re not going to remember everything the guy responding says. You would use an interview is when you want to have a meeting for the job placement also you could use an interview when you want to get into a university.

testing

Testing means that you do practice experiment before you do the real thing, The advantage of it is that you will be able to practice and practice until you get it correct so you can move on to doing the real thing. The disadvantage of testing is that it might not always be accurate data meaning someone could have typed it themselves. You would use

testing when you are in science and you want to practice it first before you start doing the experiment.

Focus group

A focus group is a qualities search on the internet Which people give out their opinions on advertisement or beliefs, The advantages of a focus group is that people can express themselves and they can ask any serious questions but the disadvantage of a focus group is that it is not efficient in covering the maximum depth or they might not express their personal opinions meaning that they would not understand him meaning that they could not help him.

Primary research means collecting information by yourself. For example

Name of research method Explanation

InternetInternet is a research method where you can get a lot of information. The advantages of the internet are that you can exchange some knowledge; also you can read the latest new around the world if you’ve missed it you could always check it on your phone. The disadvantage of the internet is that if you are going to search for an answer some of it could be written by people meaning that it could be false. You would use the internet to research about a piece of homework or read the news or a TV program if you’ve missed it.

Newspaper

A newspaper is a way of getting a lot of information i.e. reading news that has happened around the world, the newspaper will be used all over the world the advantages of the newspaper is that you can pick up information on the go. They are cheap even some newspapers are free and if you never had time to go and pick one up you could use your mobile phone to look at the news, the disadvantage for a newspaper:. You would use a newspaper when want to know information that’s happening in everyday bases

wastes ink printing a lot of newspapers time wastage for job doing people uses fossil fuels for transferring

Library

A library is a secondary research method because you can go out and pick up data as well as information the good things about a library is that you can gather bits of info if it’s not there you could simply go to another library and retrieve it from there or ask the librarian for help, The downside of a library is that it could be quite hard to find the information because the library might be too big. Mostly you might not find the book there because it might be withdrawn or lost so therefore you would have to go out and look for it in a different library. You would use the library when you are not near your computer or maybe you don’t have a computer or simply the internet has dropped.

Journals

A journal is a type of magazine or newspaper that is published weekly, monthly and quarterly. The advantages of a journal is that the information will keep you up to date and tell you new types of developments in your subject. Another advantage of journals is that. You would use a journal when you are going to seek for a job, accommodation or maybe a school journal that’s only for people throughout the school.

very cheap or at no cost by picking it up you could discover

something new They are always up to date Local so you don’t have to travel to get it Good sources for current information

The disadvantages of a journal are It might not be clear It might be false Journals rely on peoples thoughts which

will be unfair

Secondary Research means going out and investigating the information i.e. from the library more examples are.

ConclusionFor my conclusion I think research and different methods can help me with my work in this course because if I need to find out anything about primary or secondary research I will not have to go out and research it all I would just have to go back at my work.
