minutes. 6. Where are we now? 6 Davids son, Solomon, became the
next king. The LORD blessed Solomon. He was the wealthiest and most
powerful king Israel ever had. 7. Poetic books 5 books Job, Psalms,
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon Other books of the Bible
were written during the time of 1 Kings. 7 David wrote most of the
Psalms. Solomon wrote Proverbs, Song of Solomon and Ecclesiastes.
8. THE NORTHERN KINGDOM under King Jeroboam. Its capital was
located in Samaria. This kingdom is called the kingdom of ISRAEL.
THE SOUTHERN KINGDOM under King Rehoboam (Solomons son). Its
capital was located in Jerusalem. This kingdom is called the
kingdom of JUDAH. All the kings of Judah descended from King David.
8 After Solomon, the kingdom was divided into TWO parts: 9. The
people living in both of these kingdoms turned their hearts away
from the Lord, and God had to judge them. 9 10. God first judged
the wicked northern kingdom of Israel by sending the Assyrians. In
722 B.C. the Assyrians conquered Israel and carried away the people
as captives. 10 11. Later God judged the southern kingdom of Judah
by sending the Babylonians under King Nebuchadnezzar. In 586 B.C.
the city of Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed by the
Babylonians and the Jews were carried away to Babylon as captives.
11 12. 12 In the book of Kings, we see that the priests become less
and less important. The priests were the ones who were supposed to
teach Gods Word to the people. But most of the priests failed to do
this. 13. 13 Two important prophets would be Elijah and Elisha. So,
God raised up prophets to give His message to the nation and to
kings. 14. 14 The Kingdom Weakened and Divided Go to UNIT 11 15.
OBJECTIVES: It is the purpose of this unit to enable you 1 - to
realize that God does not leave you, but that it is you who leaves
God. 15 16. 2 - to understand that a good beginning means nothing
when the end is bad and far from God. 16 17. 3 - to learn from
Solomon's life that having everything in life is no substitute for
true faith and the love of God. 17 18. 4 - to understand what

King - Deuteronomy 17:14-20 - When the Israelites wanted a man as
their king, God stated that they should appoint the king that the
LORD chooses and that he must be an Israelite, from among your
brothers (v. 15). These were the instructions (v. 16-20) that those
kings were to follow. 1. - The king must NOT have great number of .
