A  follow-­‐up  of  inter-­‐regional  project  “Dialogue  among  Civilisa4ons”,  Vilnius,  2003  aimed  at  ecouraging  peaceful  dialogue  and  developping  coopera4on

Bridges  of  Tales    Following  the  recommenda4ons  adopted  during  the  Round  table  of  culture  

officials  and  managers  aimed  at  s4mula4ng  intercultural  co-­‐opera4on  in  the  domains  of  heritage  protec4on,  human  rights,  civic  educa4on,  arts  etc.  the  Lithuanian  Na4onal  Commission  for  UNESCO  ini4ated  a  new  project  “Bridges  of  Tales”.  

Goals:  

•  S4mulate  coopera4on    in  literary  transla4ons  •  Promote  knowledge  of  the  literary  heritage  of  the  two  regions  especially  

among  children  

•  Provide  schools  in  6  countries  with  a  new  fairy  tales  book,  which  can  serve  as  a  tool  for  fostering  crea4vity    

Bridges  of  Tales  I  stage/  Selec4on  of  texts  

In  consulta4on  with  advisory  literary  ins4tu4ons  6  unique/  representa4ve  folk  fairy  tales  from  Armenia,  Azerbaijan,  Estonia,  Georgia,  Latvia  and  Lithuania  were  selected.  

•  Armenian  fairy-­‐tale  „Immortal  Apple“  •  Azeri  fairy-­‐tale  „Magic  Ring“  

•  Georgian  fairy-­‐tale  „Earth  Demands  its  Due“  •  Estonian  fairy-­‐tale  „The  Strong-­‐Willed  Orphan“  

•  Latvian  fairy-­‐tale  „Silver,  Gold  and  Diamond  Horses“  •  Lithuanian  fairy-­‐tale  „Eglė,  Queen  of  the  Grass-­‐snakes“

Bridges  of  Tales  III  stage/  Drawing  Contest    

Prepara4ve  work  

Teachers  of  fine  arts  were  asked  to  introduce  their  students  with  the  main  informa4on  about  the  par4cipa4ng  countries  of  other  region  

The  fairy  tales  translated  into  na4ve  languages  were  read  and  analysed  during  the  lessons  

Realisa4on  Pupils  at  age  6-­‐13  illustrated  fairy  tales  of  the  unknown  region  demonstrating  

a  sense  of  mul4cultural  uderstanding  

20  UNESCO  Associated  Schools  par4cipated  and  almost  200  drawings  were  submieed  

28  best  drawings  selected  

All  drawings  were  incorporated  in  the  books,  however  the  drawings  of  the  winners  were  marked  by  the  bigger  size.
