DESCRIPTION
This is a mini tutorial on using Historic Pittsburgh's image collection
Citation preview
Just a basic Google search for Historic Pittsburgh
This is your landing page for all of the content housed in the Historic Pittsburgh repository. This short tutorial will take you through finding images.
There are 9 different organizations depositing image content on Historic Pittsburgh. The Heinz History Center is just one. The same search strategies work for all organizations. Happy hunting
This tutorial only covers the image collection
This database uses basic Boolean Logic. If you are not familiar, check out this video.
The option to search across collections is great if you want to see what everyone has on a given topic. Below, I selected only the Library and Archives at the Heinz History Center to narrow the options to one set of collections
Your returned results page should look something like this. Click on any image you want to see in greater detail.
The descriptive information is called metadata and gives you all the information available on that image.
Important to note is the source information for citation purposes.
Check out my Rails to Trails page on Pintrest to see a hands-on activity using images from Historic Pittsburgh.
