Name and image of the Activity Turkey.

Materials used: Purple paper, pencil, leaves, scissors, glue, coloured paper for legs, nose, and marker.

Time plan: 30 minutes.

Room and/or equipment requirements: Paper cup.

General Aim of activity – What will the final outcome be? ie. ‘To make an aeroplane with cardboard’ box. To make a turkey using paper and leaves.

Specific Learning outcomes of the activity – What will be learned by doing the activity? Ie. ‘To use fine motor skills using the scissors’ They will use a scissors.

They will learn to make a turkey.

They will learn different colours and shapes.

They will also learn about different birds.

Steps for making or doing activity:

Use images with short captions Using the paper cup draw a circle for the body of the turkey.

And draw a small second circle for the head.

Then cut out the circles.

Cut out two legs of the turkey from coloured paper of your choice.

Then cut out the nose.

Glue the head onto the body.

Then glue on the nose.

Then glue on the legs.

Draw on the eyes with black marker.

Then glue on the leaves for the tail.

How will the child/ren benefit from the activity? The children will benefit from this as they will learn different colours.

They will learn about different shapes and sizes.

They will learn about different birds.

It will develop new interest for them and extend their knowledge.

Age group/s: (development level) Suitable for all ages. But for younger ones maybe have the paper cut out and have everything ready for them

just to stick whereas the older ones should be fine with cutting.

How would you make the activity more inclusive? Principles of universal design Make sure their enough for everyone to do it.

How would you adapt the activity to suit outside/inside? You could adapt it to inside by using paper to make the tail instead of the leaves which represent outside

environment.

Simplify this activity:

It can be simplified by just using feathers out of a packet.

Variations for the activity: How could you vary the activity? ‘Marbling using foam or egg whites

instead.. It can be varied by using different types of material for the tail which will have different effects for example

we can use feathers or paper of different colours instead of leaves.

Safety concerns? If any Provide children friendly scissors or make sure they are well supervised using the scissors.

Could the activity link to an external activity/group/ outing? ‘Visit to a farm/forest to see/do….’ It could lead to an activity being planned around wild birds and different type of birds and where they live.

Extensions for the activity: Could science, geography, history, culture, literacy, maths etc, be incorporated into to the activity? How? What changes would you make? Culture can be linked into it when talking about turkey at Christmas and children may have different

cultures in regards to Christmas and this should be taken on board.

Interactions with children: talk about…. Talk with your child about what they are doing. This will help them understand the physical and mental processes they are going through as well as giving them the vocabulary to describe it. "Look at how the paint splatters like that"

Children need to be talked to throughout the activity to allow for them to ask you question and allow you to

find out more about the children and their interests and abilities. We can talk to the children about what they

are doing and if they like doing it.

Problem solving element? Make your child aware of the problem solving involved and ask them questions as needed to help them work out problems themselves, eg. "Why isn't the paint coming out now?", "Is the straw reaching the paint when the bottle is tipped like that?", "How could you fix that?"

They may have a problem cutting out the circle and may need some help. We can ask them how will we cut

this and they might say slowly.

Evaluation of activity: What did think of the activity? I taught the activity was enjoyable and it could extend to lots of learning activities for the children in

relation to different birds and their environment and different colours, shapes and sizes.
