decided to make a difference...

30 Hour Famine!! One day, the wonderful Triad learned about the

30 Hour Famine! This program is through World Vision, a non-

profit organization based out of Federal Way. The mission is to raise awareness and funds in

order to feed the world, more specifically the children.

Step 1: Chains! After deliberating on our new path, the

fabulous triad formulated a plan of action.

We created 2,900 chain links to represent the 29,000 children that die everyday from hunger, poverty, and disease.

We sold each link for a dollar, the goal was that with every link that was broken, one child would be saved for that day.

Creating Chains

Thanks to loyal HSP friends, we met our goal and were happy with the

finished product!

Step 2: Red Square The delightful triad set out to brave the wind

and rain in order to spread our knowledge and educate the masses.

Let's Talk... Our goal for Red Square was primarily to raise

awareness about the hunger issue in our world today. It is a crisis that is known but often over looked.

We did this by tabeling in Red Square with signs that read things like, “a dollar a day can keep the starvation away.”

These signs and the chains were used to catch people's attention and to come talk to us about the issue.

When people approached us, we offered information about World Vision, 30 Hour Famine, and the harsh reality of starvation.

Break the chain to ease the pain Our second goal of tabeling in Red Square

was to raise funds to send to World Vision in order to combat starvation.

We did this by letting students know that there was a simple way to make a difference; by donating just $1.00.

Step 3: Fast Next, the terrific triad decided to challenge

hunger... for thirty hours.

Page 10: Triad 30 hours of hunger final presentaiton

No Pain, No Gain The goal of fasting was to experience just a

taste of the effects of hunger. It is one thing to not eat for a couple of hours

and be satisfied with the idea that when you get home you can feast. It is a completely other thing to know that when you get home, there will be no food waiting for you. You have to find a way to distract yourself from your stomach gurgling and the pain from that empty stomach.

Step 4: “Break-the-Fast” The amazing triad survived the fast and

planned a pancake feast to “break-the-fast.”

Happily Ever After... In the end, the stupendous triad was able to

successfully promote awareness, and raise enough money to feed 120 children...a fantastic outcome!

The thrilling triad effectively accomplished our goals and lived happily ever after.
