Transitions Vantage Lenses Explained

The new Transitions® Vantage™ lenses incorporate the existing photochromic lenses that transitions are known for plus the added benefits of variable polarisation — polarisation that increases as the lenses become darker in outdoor light. That means, as Transitions® Vantage™ lenses get darker, vision gets crisper, sharper and more vivid while glare is reduced in even the brightest outdoor conditions. In addition, colour contrast and perception becomes richer, vibrant and more vivid.Transitions® Vantage™ lenses are breakthrough lenses with variable polarisation that changes in intensity as lighting conditions change. They are the first and only lenses that are virtually clear indoors with no polarisation that darken and polarise outdoors. With a range from Category 0 to 2 it has a light transmission from 77% to 20% ensuring they are ideal for both indoors to outdoors in sunny conditions.

Indoors - Darkens and Polarises outdoors

Why should you consider viariable polarised lenses?Bright sunlight can cause glare when light scatters off reflective surfaces, which causes discomfort and dull, washed-out images?  Polarisation filters this light, so you get better clarity. In the past, polarisation has been limited to sunglasses, which are popular with drivers and boaters for dealing with the harsh glare off the road or the water.  However, glare isn’t limited to extreme situations. It’s also present in our everyday lives.  Now you can get the benefits of polarisation in an everyday lens.  Transitions Vantage lenses are virtually clear indoors.  Outdoors they increase polarisation as they darken. This means that you can get crisper, sharper vision in the dappled light of a tree-lined sidewalk or the full glare of a city street.

How it works

Until recently, polarisation only existed as static film embedded in a lens. It was tinted and fixed, and thus unable to adapt to changing light and become clear. Transitions Optical has created lenses in which molecules not only darken under the influence of UV light but also align at a proper angle in the lens so that they become polarised. In other words, new Transitions Vantage lenses help control glare and light scatter by both darkening and increasing their polarisation in UV light.Conventional photochromic molecules darken in random patterns, and that works perfectly to create the adaptation from light to dark. In order to create the polarisation effect, Transitions Vantage lenses have photochromic molecules that darken and align. This allows them to create a pattern of horizontal lines with the power to cut through intense glare.Which Transition Vantage lenses do you have available on your website?
